you have no other option.

how cheap are you? if you let it be.. ultimately your car will become undriveable and ruin other parts in the process.

Why not get some buddies to help you so that you can save on labor? That's what the price is...the gasket, new bolts & fluids probably don't even add up to $100...

i do.

it's hard to own this car.. or any car unless you have money for the unexpected.

$1500 is actually a fair price if you paid a shop... doing the job with the motor in the car is tricky.

if you have another car.. just drive it.. and take yours apart a little at a time.

you want to avoid warping a head or worse if you continue to drive.

what car is it exactly? miles?

Do they have a lemon law where you live? I'm not sure the law even here, but I know here in MA the buyer has some rights against immediate mechanical catastrophe. Not that I'm big on litigation, but tough to believe the seller woulnd't know a head gasket was gone. Anyway strange, in years on tech, my first time I think reading of someone who blew a headgasket on these cars.

If you keep driving the car with a blown head gasket you are gonna need a hell of a lot more than $1500.

78K - If there's no mechanical/visual indication, what is pointing you to a blown head gasket?

there is visual. the gasket is leaking coolant down the back of my motor and i guess the heads are warped and that is whats causing it

Unfortunately it looks like you'll just have to park it until you get it fixed. You don't want to drive with a bad head gasket, it can lead to damaging other things if you keep driving it.

I just blew a rod bearing in my engine and am looking at having to put a whole new one in my car, $2500 that I don't have, so I know how you feel about the lack of money

If your going to be in there you may as well change the heads, not that hard of an install, go to ls1howto.com for instructions for installation.
