There are two knock sensors. They are both located in the valley cover underneath the intake manifold (you must remove the intake to access them).

They're both under the intake manifold, I'd replace both while it's off if you need to replace it.

It's not really that hard, check out the intake swap on ls1howto.com and ignore what you don't need.

They usually fail because water gets in the wells where they are. There is a GM TSB that says to apply silicone to the boots and to create a dam to block water.
I did this on my car.

Both knock sensors are under the intake manifold. If you remove the intake you cannot miss them. They are plain as day. At least on 98-02' LS1 motors anyway. I'm not sure on the 02'+ blocks.

I'm not sure to be honest, you never said you had an LS1 or even a GM car for that matter.
Your mechanic is a dumbass, he already changed ONE? If you do have an LS1 and this is the same mechanic that did the last one, well I don't know what kind of **** he's trying to pull.

See the two black circles? they are boots that cap the wells where the sensors are. We just need to figure out what kind of car you're working on, or whats wrong with your mechanic.
