Default A quick question......

I just did the throttle body bypass mod and lost a little coolent during the process. Not a lot, but I went and added a small amount of regular coolent to the dexcool that was already in the radiator, was this a bad decision or is this okay to mix a small amount of prestone coolent to this gm mixture without hurting anything?

I didn't even think to question this before I did it. Any response would be appreciated

Shouldn't hurt anything, but next time just use water. Here in TX we don't freeze often anyways, you can actually dilute the Dexcool more with water and make the efficiency of the cooling system increase.

Well you've introduced silicates into the system. Other than that it should still cool properly.

Very bad decision. When you mix the two, it produces a sort of acid and will rot out your radiator. Happened to my '98. Get your system THOROUGHLY flushed and fill it back with Dexcool. Do it again in a few thousand miles. Once you mix them, it is almost next to impossible to get it all out. It was a $600 mistake for us.

It's a bad mistake - it will sludge up and corrode your system WAY before its time. Flush it thoroughly and pick your color, just don't mix.

There is a coolant now that is compatible with either the old style or Dexcool. I recently drained and flushed my Z28 and our Ranger and put it in. This coolant was from Advance/Discount auto parts.
FWIW.
Edit: it is an extended life coolant like Dexcool.
