I just recently bought a car (2000 z28 w/ 100k miles) and decided to switch it over to Moble 1 5w-30 synthetic. When I bought it, it didn't burn any oil. I believe that the previous owner was using regular oil. I have noticed that it burns oil badly now by the smoke that comes out of the exhaust when it starts up and when I give it some gas. If I were to switch back to regular Maxlife 10w-30, would this levitate the leak. I was told that when I added the Moble 1 synthetic, that it might have cleaned some of the clogged areas which might be causing it to burn. I am new at cars and any opinions are greatly appreciated.
Mobil 1 shouldnt hurt anything. If i were you i would seafoam your engine and give it a full tune up. Fuel filter/plugs/plug wires/air filter/oil/oil filter along with a seafoam. It'll love you for it with those miles!

natzk4, I'd listen to this advice, bieng that you just picked up the car, that's very good advice.Plugs are a pain, a big pain, not sure if you're willing to tackle that yourself. Also i'd change the rearend fluid as well, i can post a link if you need it. If you have a 6 speed, swap out the tranny fluid too
I drove it 600 miles and it burned through 3 quarts of Moble 1 syntheic 5w - 30. I just recently did the oil change w/ a new moble 1 oil filter. Any chance it is the valve seals or something of that nature?

Go ahead and change to another oil to try it out. It won't hurt anything. I'd also change the PVC valve as well as sometimes the PVC gets stuck and start to pull oil into the intake causing the exhaust smoke.
