Default AC Repair Questions?

With about 93k on her , the ac is not working anymore. I took her in for the a/c diagnostic and before we got far the mechanic showed me how the compressor clutch is gone.

It's really noisy when I engage the a/c, I was thinking it would be as simple as replacing the compressor clutch, but from what I have read so far, seems we cannot service or replace the compressor clutch.

If I'm wrong and you can swap out the compressor clutch, please LET ME KNOW!

Otherwise I guess I will have to invest in the overhaul of the ac system...

My questions are....

If I buy the parts myself should I be installing compressor, accumulator, and orfice tube? THen just have the system vacuumed and refilled by a tech?

Do I need special tools to do any of this? SHould I be concerned with uncharging the ac system?

Any advice would help... Stealership wants over 1200 to do it. In parts alone its looking around $600.

Please chime in!

I know very little about air condition systems but purchased a brand new clutch for mine and never used it. I found out mine was noisey due to over use of Simple Green. I cleaned it and lubricated it and it's been quiet ever since. If you are interested, you can have it for $40 shipped. It's brand new, GM part # 6581515.
