Default Do MSD wires need heat shields?

Bought a set and the old shields don't fit the msd wires. My mechanic says the wires will burn up faster without them so he suggested I get some heat res socks to put over them. What do you guys think?

I have run RED MSD Wires for over 2 years without those shields and they are fine. I have LS1 and Edelbrock LTS...wires don't even come close to tubes.

I have SLP hoker heads and each plug is between one. My current OEM wires burned out at 40k miles.

oddly I manged to burn one of my MSD wires on the passenger side number 5 I think. Was bent out of the way AND my headers are ceramic coated...

I really wish I could put the shields on them. Oh well.

Never ran 'em on mine, I just carefully bent the boots back when I ran 'em. I now have 7 LS1 GTO wires and 1 MSD

What heat wraps should I get?

Also, can't MSD take more heat than the OEM.

I dont have any shield on my MSD's. You can get the high temp boots though, they might prolong the life of the wires a bit.

They will fit over the boot and you can use them. I have run them both ways, they dont make a difference.
