Default seafoam question *yes, i did a search*

ok, im getting a very nasty/loud lifter tick on cold starts

it ticks very loudly, and the car runs like complete **** until it warms up and oil pressure gets to normal, then there is no problems what so ever

im thinking something is stuck in the lifter, and i would like to try and use seafoam in my crank case

i bought my car with 92k miles on it, so i have no idea how it was treated before i got it, but i have changed the oil every 3000 miles for the past 30k miles

how should i use the seafoam? i am totally against putting it in the crank case, but i am kinda desperate to fix the problem, and i have seen two conflicting stories:

1. put seafoam into crank case, and drive the car normally and change the oil after about 150-200 miles

2. put seafoam in, DONT put the engine under load, let it idle until it gets to full operating temp for 15min and change the oil

what should i do? i just changed the oil yesterday to hopefully fix my problem to no avail

so can i get some input here?

thanks guys, im just confused on which method i should use!

You more than likely have a collapsed lifter and seafoam ain't gonna fix it

you think?

my car was ticking, so i did an oil change, on first startup, it ticked for a few seconds, then immediately went away

went to start it a few hours later, and i got the ticking again

tried to start it this morning on a complete cold start (and a colder morning) and it just ticked for about 5 seconds again and quit.. this was the morning after a 30 mile drive, i thought it may "clean" the lifters out

is there any easy way to check for a collapsed lifter?

I had the same problem this past winter, but it was in my work van. I ran like crap on start up and might stall once in a while till it warmed up, plus it had a tick till it warmed up I put seaform in the intake, vacumm line, and the gas tank. Next week the problem went away completely.

cool, i actually started it up a few hours ago and it didnt tick at all.. so hopefully whatever was (maybe) stuck in the lifter worked its way out

I wrote this writeup a long time ago.

https://ls1tech.com/forums/showthrea...w+your+seafoam

It was a sticky for almost 2 years, but for some ungodly reason they took it down

Check it out.
