Weird Noise
Weird Noise I have a weird noise in my car, that is impossible to explain over the internet or in words for that matter so ill try my best.
from a stop when you launch the car (put pressure on drivetrain) it makes a rattleing noise, like a constant rattle, like very half second it rattles.
now i put new wheels on the car, right after i did i this the noise went away, but after about 50 miles it came back again.
now i think it may be a suspension piece in the front end that maybe re-aligned itself when the car was up on jacks.
Im wondering if there is anything i should look for in the front suspension to maybe tighten down, or see if something it banging against something.

well me and my brother were drivng it around and we located the noise, its coming from the center column. so we are guessing its the tranny mount. i know its not the transmission because it shifts smooth as glass. so im guessing under the heavy pressure it is making noises from the mount being bad. im going to get it on the lift again and see if i can see the mount and check the rubber. i mean it is an 8 year old car, it wouldnt suprise me if that was the problem.
I have the same /similar issue right now...let me know if it is the mount. My mount appears fine but it sounds like the exhaust hitting somewhere under the car (and I've verified it is not).
i was reading around and it could possibly be the motor mounts causing it to send uneccessary vibrations through the transmission, so im going to check that also.
alright man. i should have in on the lift probably tomorrow depending on what mood im in after work and if i feel like messing with it. but it will definitely be friday when i get it up there. ill keep you informed.

Verdad Gallardo yeah ill write all that down on my list, it probably has something to do with a worn out bushing. if i find its the tranny mount ill end up buying another stock mount from gm because people say that poly mounts cause an unwanted amount of vibration which i really dont care for.
They say it causes vibration...and it did me when I changed mine, but...
it turned out that my driveshaft was just out of balance, got that fixed and no vibration.
I heard thats usually what you got to do. I used energy suspension with the mounting plate.
I would just put a rubber one on though. I'm changing mine back to a rubber one cause I heard you can break you tail shaft with the stock tourqe arm.
I'm just saying that when my torque arm went out, it didn't make a rattleing noise. My car is making a noise right now though, kind of sounds like a ticking like a rod knocking but, it's coming from the transmission. It's when I put it in gear(A4) and if I put the ebreak on and go listen, it's coming from the trans. Mine clunks in shifting too, but yours is a manual so I don't think it would.

i have a somewhat weird noise like that too...from time to time when the cars in gear and im on the break i hear a sort of rattle but ive been under there a thousand times and cannot find anywhere the exhaust is hitting...
im guessing its going to be some sort of bushing that has gone bad, making an unwanted metal/metal contact, and thats where the noise is coming from
have someone go outside the car and put their ear near the brakes when you make the car make the noise. ive never heard of that problem before but maybe somone on the boards has. by best guess is take the brakes apart and re-install them and take our time doing so, hopefully it was just a user error and the noise will go away.
