Your LS1 won't sound anything like the LT1 with the FM. I think they sound weak on LS1's. Get a Loudmouth or Borla.

I agree that there is probably a good chance you will lose power with flowmaster
It's certainly not the best choice has far has gains, but there is no way you will lose power going from stock to a flowmaster.

I completely agree with RMP WS6. First of all, the LT1 sounds much better, louder and deeper over the LS1. The Magnaflow sounds good with cats if you don't want a super loud exhaust. With an ORP, it sounds good at low rpm, but has rasp, and at wot it kinda high pitched. At a recent dyno session, some guy pulled up in his '98 Z28 and the thing just sounded awesome. When asked what he had, he said "Headers, ORP and a Flowmaster muffler." I nearly drove to the closest muffler shop to get one welded on. If you like a great sounding car, get the FM, if you are concerned about a few HP, shop for a cat-back that you like.

I agree with most here that LT1's sound better then LS1's. But I highly recommend doing what I did. Dynomouth sounds friggin awesome and flows better then all the others with the exception of the SLP Loudmouth. You'll gain max horsepower, have no noticeable drone, no rasp (if you keep cats) and it'll sound sweet.

It's a low rumble at idle (louder then stock for sure). It's loud when accelerating (but not quite loud enough to get pulled over for). It absolutely screams at WOT (be careful because you can get pulled over if a cop hears you go WOT with this setup).

Best part is the price. $150.00 installed if you like your current tips and $250.00 installed if you wanna give yourself a new set of stainless steel tips.

Best mod I have done so far. I absolutely love the sound, it was cheaper then all the conventional catbacks and produces as much HP as loudmouth without the drone and more then the others.

PM me if you need part numbers and details on how to do it.

I'm another vote for magnaflow. It has a great sound. At Idle it isn't to loud, but when you get on it, it's a great sound!

I have a Flowmaster muffler welded in because I really do like the sound... it was also cheap. I have a Flo-tech cutout welded into the i-pipe which I leave uncapped pretty much all summer (race season) long. In the winter, I cap it up and drive around with the Flowmaster which is much more quiet (relatively speaking when compared to a cutout), and has no rasp through the stock cats.

Flowmaster does NOT cost you any power over the factory OEM mufflers(specifically the Z28/TA/Formula versions) at any power level.

Granted it does not flow as well as most other aftermarket mufflers available for our cars, I have still seen healthy gains(10+rwhp) over bone stock with the AT cat-back. Like most other systems, just replacing the muffler only won't really net you much of a gain anyway. Where I think the Flowmaster hurts you is on cars making 350+rwhp as the dyno has proved this.

Either way though, it has a really deep tone(which I personally do not think the Magnaflow or most other systems have).

I have a 80 series on my SS. Its quiet...too quiet and pops like crazy between shifts when its cold. Raced a WS6 w/the Flow catback and it was a lot louder than mine with just the muffler.

How does the dynomouth sound on the highway..in the cabin that is. I travel in my car and don't want something that drones like a demon. I may just end up going to a cut out.

Well there is NO power gains through flowmaster, in fact, I think you loose power.
Dude, set down the crack pipe.

Really like your username, but your opinion on Flowmaster is crazy talk.

Yes. My case was a heads/cam '99 SS. Thru flowmaster 80-series: 363 rwhp Open cutout: 393 rwhp. Replaced the muffler with an SLP dual/dual and made a few other (non exhaust) changes, and next time out saw thru muffler 396, open cutout 402.

The Flowmaster did sound nice though, and for a stock (or nearly) setup I wouldn't think it would COST you HP...just not as good a muffler as some others.

I have Flowdisaster on my car as you can see in my sig. I hate this crap, how can you guys even like it????????? I have hear Loudmouth, GMMG, Borla, Corsa, Dynomouth, and ope cut-out. All of these are in person. When compared to my car, Flowmaster sounds like a weak beater car. It is quiet, sounds like the exhaust falls apart when you let of the throttle when you rev it, and if you stay in gear long enough (around 4,000-5,500) the exhaust gets quiet.

Why do I have this opinion?
Because I love drag acing, and love the sound of a good V8, Flowmaster system was originaly designed for the LT1, that is why it sounds so nice on an LT1. Flowmaster's muffler choice on a LS1 was quite stupid. It sounds nice at cruise, quiet at WOT, and like **** when you rev it.
I plan on getting Dynomouth put on in the next month, and do not plan to ever think of getting the system again. It is bad for power, doesn't sound all that good, and looks ugly at that too. Never buy Flowmaster, unless you for some reason love it. I hate it, and plan to sell it soon and will not recomend someone buy it. But I am sure someone out there still will.
