Default Cut Out Question!

Wow i feel like a newb asking this.

I have never had a cut out on my car. I know that when you open it you can really gain some HP from it.

So my question is, with my camd car and my nice breathable exhasut woudl i notice anything with a cut out?

Dont feel like a newb bro I have owned 7 LS1 cars, 5 of which I have made head/cam/full bolt on/suspension setups, and just a couple weeks ago I was asking for suggestions on a cam. Anyway, with the cutout you might notice a little less torque at low rpms due to less back pressure, but you will certainly feel a nice gain at mid range to high rpms. Just look at the dyno results...you could pick up as much as 10-12 rwhp with a cutout. Not to mention a nice cammed LS1 running a cutout at 4000 rpms sounds like heaven

I know the easy questions I ask make me feel dumb, but when i answer the hard questions i feel smart

I had a feeling that i would gain some with the cut out open... I jsut don't know how much though.. Why does it flow so well mid - high RPMs? I have a nice free flowing c/b......

You should hear my car with teh GMMG

Another question. When i add the cut out, the car is going back to get tuned int he spring b/c i bought more goodies for the car to put on over the winter. But should i have the car tuned when the cut is both open and closed? Or jsut closed?

You will get higher gains if you tune before and after.

359 NA closed
369 NA Open

441 on a 100 shot closed
471 on a 100 shot open

Can't remember the torque numbers, sorry..

I run DMH low profile on my 403 with a Z06 TI cat-back. I picked up 14 RWHP and 18RWT with the cutouts open. It depends on how restrictive your exhaust is behind the cutouts.

If you think about it, there is no realistic way to tune for a closed cutout vs. an open cutout. Most people will suggest tuning for it closed, thinking that you will only open it every once in a while. People like me....I drive with it open all the time, so it would be stupid to tune with it closed. Bottom line...tune for which ever way you will be running it mostly.

Have the car tuned for them open. Car just runs a little rich when closed. Better this way than have it tuned closed and run lean when you want tyo have it open. Go with the QTP cutout on your GMMG. You should see about 5-8hp. Maybe even more.

I am going with a DMH. I already have the wiring ran for the car. I was going to put one on, then i sold it. All i have to do is weld in the flowtech pipe, bolt the cut onto the flwotech pipe and connect the plug and i am done

Why would the car run a little rich with a cut out, let alon with it closed?
