Default Hooker slowing me down?

I was wondering if I could maybe pick up alittle power with duals or an open Y?
car goes 10.50s now with jethot headers, hooker Y and hooker catback?

I was gonna try to make a pass with an open y-pipe this year but never got around to it.

Get a dynomax bullet and dump it off the Y-pipe. Makes power!

I've always seen/read/heard Hooker was one of the freest flowing out there. I remember seeing a dyno sheet somewhere that someone picked up less than 3hp with a cutout over the hooker. Pretty vague aren't I.

I gained 11tq 11hp from a my hooker catback to a open cutout But every setup is different. Im sure power can be picked up for adding a cutout or running true duals if you wanted to go that route.

i picked up a lil bit with my TDs over my lm2/ offroad Y setup so id imagine u might but i dont think it be enough to justify the cost, in my case i had to because of the aftermarket torque arm. having a Y with a muffler dumped at the end is a nice alternative as well.

A custom Y-pipe w/ a Flowmaster merge should pick up a little power and still keep it quite for all the street driving your do Larry.

any y pipe is pretty restrictive unless its custom bent for your car with a good flowing merge.

You need true duals bad.

i gained 6hp on the dyno with a cutout vs my magnaflow if that helps at all. I take that as a grain of salt tho cause even the same dyno never seems to give you the exact same number on back to back pulls with no changes.

Well, if your hooker is slowing you down, you should tell her to get the heck out. Weight reduction always helps.

Edit: Sorry for the bad joke, I have Hooker headers and i love them, I vote true duals! I'm biased, I like the sound

Have you every looked inside a 3" Hooker Y-pipe? I have one on my car and before I put it on I was looking down the pipe and where the two pipes merge together it is actually the PAS side that flows free and the DR side is welded to the PAS side and only has a 2 1/2" hole that flows in the other pipe. I cut mine apart and all it was is a hole from a hole saw cut in to the bend. We cut the rest of the material out and re welded it. It also sounded a lot better for some reason.

Larry - duals will pick you up a tenth or two for sure. They did with my stock internals '02 that I had a few years back. Only downside is the drone in the car - makes it hard to talk to someone or be on the phone.

A Hooker wont slow you down any more than any other catback. Hooker flows just about as well as any aftermarket muffler. Your only option is cutout or duals.

When i was sprayin the ol lt1 150shot, it was putting down 434rwhp with the cutout open, another pull made with the cutout closed didnt drop much I think it lost about 2rwhp or something.

cutout was in the I pipe by the pass rear.
