Default SLP "new" headers

I ordered the header kit of their website and it arrived at my door two days later. These headers are stainless steel and ceramic coated. They are a quality piece like all of SLP's other parts. I don't know why people say bad things about them (other than the old ones hung low). Honestly, they may be slightly more expensive sometimes, but it is worth it for the quality. I have a few questions though: How much will the cats hurt the horsepower and how beneficial is a tune right away? I figure with cats and O2 sensors, the computer can pretty much take care of it. I plan on adding a cam in about 6 months or so...

Wait untill you get the cam to have it tuned. The cats might hold back 10(+-) hp.

I don't know PA laws, but just gut the cats. That way you will pass the visual inspection. If they do the sniffer you would be screwed though.

I have the first design with their cats, ypipe and loudmouth 1. They def help with the rasp. I would keepem, you can always swap in "test pipes" if you wanted to later. Just do youself a favor and take one of the cats to an exhaust shop and have them make "test pipes" for you so you can just clamp them in place.

SLP does make some good stuff, but not a fan when they use 409 stainless for there headers. Its the low end of stainless and will rust through the coating they put on.

So do you have any pics of them laid out or installed on the car to show ground clearance?

They will be installed by Wednesday, should have pictures by the weekend. My setup is a headache though because I adapted a borla catback to CME. It has been nothing but a headache. The tips hang too low and rattle like crazy. I bought the elbow connectors from SLP because they were the only 20 bucks a piece. I figure if I adapt them in, it might help my problem.

You need to find a new exhaust guy...

CME tips + 2 90 degree mandrel bends and any reputable exhaust shop should be able to make it work and line it up right. If not, you're just gettin' ripped.

I don't get where you guys keep saying that SLP makes quality stuff. When their headers originally came out, people were bitching left and right about them rusting out in less than a year and the coating flakes off, just like their chromed wheels.

Mine are a few years old. No rust and the coating is in great shape, still shine!
But I have seen them rust and chip. mostly when the collector gets scraped or bent, then the chipping and rust starts. And since they hang low that could be a problem for alot of people
