Default Using AIR pump as vacuum pump?

I'm about to install a 383 in my car and was wondering the best setup for the PCV system. I have a LS6 valley cover for it, and know that does away with pretty much all the problems and all the crap associated with the stock PCV system, but I came across this. Do you think this would be ok for a daily driver? It only comes on when needed and seems like it would work well. Anyone have any insight or info on this?

boosted cars tend to have more crankcase pressure and increase in blow by. i have seen some cars blow off the pcv hoses due to the boost

Yea, thats the kit I was talking about. Its linked in my original post. I figure it would be a descent setup since it only comes on when needed instead of running all the time like most.

exactly

I think even pro stock cars run them. They cost a few hp but the better ring sealing is worth it.

I have heard of cases where people have tried it, and it only give marginal vacuum. Also, supposedly the pump was not meant for a 100% duty cycle, and wears out too quickly with continuous use.

This setup the pump would only come on when under boost.

well the tighter you can seal those rings on the piston, the more HP you can make. I dont recall the #'s but for every 1" of vacumn in the crankcase so many HP are generated

There would not be HP gains. This is for oil control.

Also the oil takes them out. The only good electric vacuum pumps are http://www.starvacuumpumps.com/catalog.php
NA motors will gain HP. Cars with weak rings or low tension rings will see the largest gains.
I run a star pump on mine. Couldn't be happier with it. I remember a while back madman having a star pump pull an oil pan into the rods it had so much vacuum.

Our harness only runs the pump under boost / WOT so they do not overheat. The links to the Buick forum above show how to place a catch can in front of the pump to collect the oil vapor. If our harness is used as well as a catch can the pumps will last a long time.
