Default Full exhaust without tune

Just wondering if anyone has noticed a difference with a full exhaust (headers, ory, cb) without a tune? I know it won't use it's potential without a tune, but is there a noticeable difference without one?

of course there is, not like a full-on engine swap difference, but you can tell. plus the sound is much better

Yes you will. You will lose some bottom end torque but gain some good midrange. Also you will run rich. I ran my car that way for about 6 months. When I got the tune, it woke the car up completely. At the time it felt like a monster lol. Now it's jsut another almost bolt on car.

I know it seemed like a stupid question but I was always under the assumption you don't gain much at all until tuned. With a tune you're looking at, what? 30-40? Without a tune it's probably less than half that. Or am I wrong?

you wont gain 30-40 tuned. Numbers wise you wont gain much. But an efficient running engine and more *** to the seat torque is going to be gained. Done rely on dyno numbers. Rely on a well built set up.

with a lid , mac mid-length headers and duals dumped the car did 348rwhp and 355rwtq . this is with stock everything else like ls1 intake etc.. . the air fuel was not out too out of whack . though with any decent mod tuning can aid.
so with a tune for sure the numbers are out there . i got a old dyno from way back when i did it in the dyno section . with those few mods .

id say if you have plans of a cam in the future, wait on getting your car tuned... it really wont do a whole lot more to your setup, nothing out of your seat...

Mines throwing codes and running rich as hell. Throws flames out the exhaust lol. But it drives fine.

Gained 2 tenths and 4 MPH with no traction or tune.

it runs good compared to before you put it on but nothing like one that has a tune with it and without that tune it will run rich and throw a check engine light

^ yes you still will gain power, you just might now have the max. you could possibly have with a tune, thats all.. i dont think there is a big need for a tune if you just have headers, save the money for a cam swap or something..

Yeah your car is going to run rich as hell if you don't get it tuned. I think that even if your car is completely stock, a good tune would make a noticeable difference. Consider that you are pulling in more and letting more out than your stock pcm is tuned to run. Fix that, and obviously you should be able to tell a difference. I'm getting my hooker lts and the ory in a couple weeks and them I am takin it to texas speed to get it tuned. I will post up numbers for before and after the tune. And with the cutout open and closed.

I don't understand why so many people put tons of money into modding their cars then don't tune them. After a mild cam/intake/header swap on my car, it would barely idle on a cold startup. The tune the following week made the car tons more drivable, and really woke it up.

when I was running headers, catback, and lid the car would pull harder at 90% throttle (closed loop) than it would at WOT (open loop) before getting it tuned.

+1 to the run well, but need a tune for full effect, wait for other mods the dyno tune.

My car had a hand held tune, that is pretty well done actually. Only change I made at one time was upgrading I-Pipe to 3". So headers >3" ORY>3" back to muffler. Even changing the Hooker Maxflow, to a crossflow Flowmaster 80.... it is still flowing better than it was, and I notice the torque is better mid and high, but loss on low end.
