Default 806 to 241 heads

I was told the 806 heads on a 98 LS1 do not flow that good so I was going to put some 241 heads on would it be worth it ?

From a stock to stock swap? No it wouldn't be worth it. You'd gain maybe 5-8 HP if it's a completely stock car.

243's would be a better choice.

Once they are ported there will be NO performance difference. Put your $$ somewhere else.

Are you saying not to get the 241 and just port the 806s ?

yes he is.....research before you touch those heads and dont just go and cut just anyplace....there are certain places in the ls1 heads that are crucial to gainig velocity and flow....you cant just jerk out the dremel and start cutting anywhere...

Depends on how cheap they are and if you are definitely going to get them ported. If you can buy 'em real cheap, have them ported by somebody who knows LS1 heads, then you can pull off the 806's and bolt on your fresh ported heads.

The advantage over porting your 806's is that you have no down time while the heads are being ported - not that the 241's are going to do anything special for you.

The advantage of the 241's is the casting is just a little smoother. Once ported no difference. You also need to buy center bolt valve covers with 241's so a little more $$.

You will really see better gains for your $$ doing bolt ons first then a cam then heads if you can't do it all at once. Better heads won't pick up a lot if the rest of your setup can't support it IMO.

Not sure about what you want to spend but if you're going to the trouble to swap to another set of stock heads I would suggest 243 heads and get an LS6 intake since you have to pull that off as well. If you can swing a cam swap then you'll see some nice gains!

Intersting information

the 98 806's were a 69 cc combustion chamber
the 01-02 241's were a 66 cc combustion chamber.
