no the eaton unit is splined to accept only that spline axle. like i said befor, an auto car will hold up with a propperly set up 10 bolt, but no amount of upgrades will get them to hold up to a heavy left foot with a good clutch. with a stock clutch they hold up ok sometimes.

i think im going to keep the rear as is and jsut bolt it up to the ls1... should hold up better than the stock 10bolt.... but i love my z06 motorsport replicas and dont want to spend any money on this rear end so im trying to figure out what kind of spacer ill need and jsut how safe a spacer actually is
if you guys could help me on this... https://ls1tech.com/forums/gears-axl...l-spacers.html

i have LS1 4th gen rear on my thirdgen and 4th gen wheels bolt up just fine. IF you have a 3rd gen rear we thirdgen guys typically use a 2inch rear bolt on spacer to bolt on 4th gen spec wheels
the 19x10 corvette C6 wheels like i have would need a 2.5" spacer or so to work with 3rd gen wheel
Z06 replicas should be 18x10.5 or so? they will need a 2" but you can measure the offsets/backspacing to get a better idea. If they fit just fine now with the 4th gen rear, figure the rear is narrowed about 1.75-2 inches per side, so you will need a 1.7 to 2 inch spacer
BOLT on spacers are VERY safe. Lugs support the spacer and the spacer has its own lugs for the wheels. SO its just a stock extension. Use ARP wheel studs to be sure you have strong connection if your worried
Indeed, all you need now is rims with less backspacing. typical 4th gen spec 15x10's are 7-7.5" backspacing or so? on a thirdgen we use 5.5-6" or so. looky there, 1.5-2" shorter since our rears are almost 2" shorter per side.
You'd have to measure this to be sure, but you probly would need a 15x10 with thirdgen backspacing to fit like stock. It just pushes everything 2" closer to the inner fender well. Its nice since they make some wide rims with smaller backspacing specs that wont normally fit on a 4th gen car without a narrowed rear
SO buy a thirdgen rear
I'm doing the opposite, i'm getting a 4th gen spec rear to keep my 4th gen wheels

ya interested as well. Buddy of mine is looking at a 3rd gen 12bolt rear, kind of like a poor mans shortened rear end, should fit a pretty big tire!

To the OP, the 3rd gen rear is 3.5" shorter than the 98-02 rear, and 4" shorter than the 93-97 rear. The 3rd gen rear also has no provisions for either ABS or traction control, however you can modify it to accept an ABS sensor. You will have to modify the axle tube ends to swap your disc brakes over.

guess ill bring this post to a nice close... bought a 12 bolt from a 3rd gen instead (mint cond for 1000 bucks!!! with extras!!!)
i measured my rear and this one and its exactly 3 inches narrower, i bought 1.5 inch spacers and will be installing the rear tomorrow...
ill be grounding he 3 wires at my abs box so bye bye ABS/TCS/ASR
it came with lt1 brakes, backing plates and calipers, so ill jsut sway the disks for my ls1s for the ebrake...
if anyone else has a question, i think ill have your answer...
again 3RD GEN REAR IS EXACTLY 3 INCHES NARROWER THAN LS1 REAR

No it wasn't the stock rear. 28 spline axles didn't even exist for the small 10 bolt until late 1989.

That was what Ive seen as well, hadnt seen a 28 spline that early. All the ones Ive seen were newer. Had alot of guys wanting minispools for their later car/s10 and couldnt because they only fit the older 26 spline. Guess that doesnt mean they didnt exist.

i need to post a retraction. after examining the teeth on my rear axel's they are only 26 teeth. i am sorry if i caused any harm. i did put in a new center section with 28 spline's so now i need new axel's, or the new owner does. it is for sale....
