headers?

headers? so i have a 2000 trans am, and am debating getting headers and y pipe. i have simple bolt on mods and dont plan on heavy modifications. would it be feasible to simply keep the stock exhaust manifolds and cut from the cats on down and install just a smooth custom y pipe to the exhaust? would it be cost effective? would there be significant difference between this and getting longtubes? thanks!
I would definately recommend looking into a set of longtubes, we usually look to pick up anywhere between 15-30 hp especially with an Off Road Y-Pipe . Since you are not looking to modify the engine heavily I would recommend looking into some 1 3/4 Headers so you can maintain good low end power. QTP's I love my QTP Long Tubes. Picked them up here out of the classifieds. Their so awesome I 'm having a hard time parting with them to hide them under the hood. But 40 or so HP should more than compensate my loss.
