This is a really good question. I have a vette and trans am and both have LTs with an Xpipe, no cats and duals with dynomax bullets. they sound nothing a like. Here is a video of the vette. Don't have one of the trans am yet.

It's the exhaust. Very small changes in the exhaust like tube size, bend locations, bend radius, crossover type and location all vary the exhaust note tremendously. Even something as simple as an exhaust tip can change the sound.
