once youre tuned speed density, you no longer need it, and its just a restriction in the intake path. id like to see a dyno comparioson with a SD with the MAF car vs. a SD car without the MAF.

also, it looks so much better w/o it!

Ok. I can see the better throttle response and the airflow but the weight? 5 lbs. Why wouldn't a tuner do this to every car being tuned? I'm ******* pist if my tuner knew this and he didn't do it.

There are very few who even touch the VE tables. It used to take alot of time driving around and logging runs to get VE tables dialed in. The tuning software that is available today makes it much easier but tuners still don't do it. I recommend getting the software and a wideband and doing it yourself.

I was just kidding about the weight. It's probably about a pound but that's still weigh savings.

I don't think of it as a perforance mod but it has to be worth something, even if its small.

GM High Tech tested an SLP 85MM a while back and picked up 2 or 3hp just bolting it on. I assumed it was from the extra airflow but it could have affected timing and/or fuel. If the airflow netted the 2-3hp then surely removing the mess in the intake tube will equal the extra flow of the larger maf with the mess in it.

LOL, mess = guts of the MAF

At the track I was using an SD tune with the stock screened MAF still in place. I went from that to what you see in the pic above and retuned for the small airflow differences, but I didn't go any faster on average. There was some weather differences in favor of the MAF run, but they were very small.

So, on my bolt on car the stock screened MAF wasn't really a restriction, but not having it didn't hurt me one bit.
