Default cutout not loud enough

I am tossing around the idea of just gutting the cats, I haven't yet in fear of regret... Stock manifolds, cats with a cutout.... Can't run ORY because Texas I believe does visual inspections for cats... What's the solution here? Will headers with a catted Y do the trick? Do headers Really make that big of a diff??

I have the LM-1 exhaust and with the stock manifolds and cats, had a nice tone to it, when i put LT's on and an ORY it was HELLA LOUD, i ended up getting a new catback. LT's will make it louder! Even if they don't, its one of the first things to do on an LS1 anyway, thats like 25HP right there....with a good Y setup. You could gut the cats as well. To get rid of the crappy factory Y and if you don't have the money for a good Catted one, you could buy and ORY and the weld in Fake cats (like your gutted stockers)

stock manifolds w/o any kind of cat-back sound like a truck. plus LS1s dont get loud until you get longtubes. then they friggen scream

my experience....this is on a truck btw....longtubes into catted Y pipe into a cutout it's no louder than stock manifolds stock catted y into the same cutout. Running longtubes into ORY into cutout was significantly louder. The biggest difference in volume comes from cats/no cats, not manifolds vs longtubes. Just my experience. I ran no cats for 6 months or so, got sick of the fumes seeping into the cab on my DD. No sotp difference with cats, I miss the "muscle car" sound though.

i disagree, i think a lot of fbodys sounds good with just a catback w/ stock manifolds.. they don't sound as loud or mean as cars with headers, but come on now they don't sound like a truck..

He said WITHOUT a catback... Meaning, it takes a catback to make them sound good with manifolds... not a cutout.

Headers and a catted y pipe will definitely do the trick. I had just an intake and exhaust for a while but when I got my kooks long tubes and high flow catted y-pipe installed it made a HUGE difference. Was extremely loud and much faster. I dunno what kind of exhaust you have but I have a Borla with the wide open plate and I really can't imagine it being much louder haha.

I agree 100%, if they do visual inspections just gut your stock cats and it will be much louder.

Pickup some 00-02 stock manifolds, cats and ypipe. Use a offroad pipe in place of the cats. when its time for inspection just swap the cats back in.

Until I decide on a cam, I'm keeping my stock manifolds w/ ORY, when cut-out is opened car screams at high RPM's. But very raspy at low RPM's.

Get some headers. Weld two pipes going from your Y pipe into the cab, one for each ear. lol
