Basic exhaust question

Hey guys i am new here, and just bought my first F-Body. I got a 99 z-28 with 43k on it. it is black with tan leather interior - t tops monsoon system alarm chrome wheels so on and so on. I am looking at the moment just to throw a more high end muffler on the car to get some sound out of it, till i can get a cat back. can anyone give me suggesstions on what would sound good and give me a good rumbly sound at idle but then just explode with sound under heavy accell.

From what people are saying Hooker catback sounds good. I know you just want the muffler but the best sound I have heard would have to be SLP LM. The LM has a decent sound in the low RPM's but wakes up under WOT.

If you're going to run cats and you're on a budget, just dump the muffler and run straight pipes! With two cats, who needs a muffler? The SLP Loud Mouth works on this principle.

I have thought about running straights but i work in a greasy place as a suspension mechanic on heavy duty truck (semis - dump trucks - and so on) and i dont want to mess up the interior so my girl drives it during the week and i use a work car. so i dont want it to be toooo loud. Also dont i have to worry about the backpressure loss of running straight pipes? Where are some good places to look for exhaust systems and mufflers?

It won't be that loud running straight pipes as long as you still have the cats. In fact, with cats and mufflers both you will never be able to get any sound out of it. If you aren't going to run cats, then I'd say try some Magnaflow mufflers for best sound.
