This, plus a cat back like the Hooker Aero chamber and you'll have a pretty nice budget setup.

Thanks everyone. You guys are awesome. I've been reading a lot into it. I plan on installing these headers by myself, what install time can I look at and tools needed? I have every tool you could think of, but I'm trying to decide if I need to take it to my dads shop or if I could do it at home. Appreciate it guys. By the way, I'm thinking of going with true duals, so I'm gonna try and talk to the muffler guys around here to help with it.

I am installing American Racing Headers, and a high flow catted y. Yes, It is more expensive, but you get what you pay for. IMO, cars without cats don't sound nearly as good. In fact, some are down right obnoxious...sound like farm trucks. It's cheaper, but you sacrifice sound quality. Cats make it sound more refined...more like a Vette. Hi flow cats won't cost you horsepower either.

If you have access to a lift at your dads shop, I would definitely do it there!

I bet there's no way I could get cats with true duals and long tubes though...

And yeah, I probably would use a lift.

Thanks, looks like it shouldn't be too hard. Just time consuming. So with some long tubes and true duals I could expect probably around 30-40 hp from what I've read, right?

ill give you 2 more notes to take.

1) SLP makes nice stuff, but most of it doesnt put out anywher near the power they claim. they really rate on the high end, and for the price you could get a better product.

2) The LLP headers are really nice, they are stainless steel and are about the same as pace setters but the stainless will never rust, and holds heat even better.

With the regular bolt ons (lid, LT's, cat back/TD, ls6 intake, ported TB) and a tune you should be close to 350rwhp or so.

As long as your state(or you know somebody) only does OBDII inspections(as with most people in NYC) there is a way to "pass" your inspections. Removing cats will throw codes, but a tuner can remove them.... and can also "help" you pass OBDII inspections

Tainted touched on the fact that you could fail a test by simply moving or removing your converters. What hasn't been stated here, is that no matter where you live, in the U.S. it is technically illegal to remove the converters from your car. I'm not saying that people get arrested for it or anything of the sort, but I'm pretty sure you can get some pretty healthy fines for tampering with the emissions equipment.

Sure, everyone here does it, even I plan to do it, but calling it legal is incorrect. Just had to clarify that.

word of advice, if you are doing this in your driveway/garage you will have to jack your car extemely high up to get the passenger side header in. there is a very well written thread on here that explains step by step how to install long tubes, but it failed to mention how high you have to jack up the car until it actually came to that step. if you see in my sig i'm still waiting for time off from work to put mine in, i had attempted to do it a couple months ago, however i came to a road block when i had to put the passenger side on cuz i had nothing to jack it up that high. so now i still have shorties on there with a not-so-noticable-yet-very-annoying exhaust leak inbetween my passenger side header and cat do yourself a favor; find that thread and read it all the way through before install!!!! don't make my mistake

I live in Arkansas. Not surprisingly enough, we don't have inspections.

I have a lid with bellows, and right now I'm just running straight pipes off the cats. Hopefully, I'll have full bolt-ons by the end of the month. Actually, after the LTs and TDs, I'm buying a set of 3.73s from a guy on here. AIR pump and EGR system removal, tuning. I won't be getting the intake and throttle body until probably the summer or next winter when my next excess aid check comes in from college(the money I can pretty much blow 1k of off the bat). But hopefully by this time next year I'll be able to put in a cam, possibly some rocker arms. Past that, I don't plan on doing any performance modifications, but I might be getting some vette fuil rail covers soon too :/

TL;DR
Yeah, I hope I can be at 350 soon with my ram air set up and everything, but my goal is around 400-425 N/A.

Yeah, I read through the install instructions posted on here a few times and I've decided to do it at the shop where I can use the lift and tools at my disposal. I need some advice from you guys though: I bought my 2000 z28 with 109k miles with MY money in July of 2007 for 7k after the trade in of my 95 v6 stang with a wrecked skirt. My dad is a mechanic, owns is own shop, and is very well respected around here. He went through his muscle car days with his 67 GTO and whatnot. My problem is, he doesn't want me to make any modifications to my Camaro, doesn't want me to race it, and wants me to keep it all stock. He wasn't pleased with what I've done to it already.

I'm almost 20. Anyone else had this sort of problem? How did you handle it? I planned on telling him later today what I plan on doing with bolt ons and internals eventually. I just want a good setup and stuff, ya know?

By the way, I've been thinking of going with actual LS6 heads from a z06. I was wondering if they would go well with a stock cam until I could get an aftermarket one. Any experience with this?

If not, would porting my heads and getting good roller rockers, springs, retainers be very beneficial? I know it would be beneficial, and this part doesn't belong here, but whats a good head/cam setup for the buck for the gains I'm looking for?
