call the guys at texas speed, i hear they have some good head/cam packages. your dad, being the well rounded street rod veteran you portray him to be knows what these cars can do with just mild bolt on mods, so he's prolly just worried and wants to make sure you don't kill yourself. how you handle that situation is all on you, bro.

Depends on what your budget is for heads / cam. I would go with PRC 5.3 and a 228r for a solid street setup that is relatively cheap. Call Matt or John over at TSP and talk to them.
Before you get into heads / cam I would strongly suggest looking at what suspension setup you want to run and spend some good money on shocks, springs if you want to lower it, PHB, LCAs, SFC's etc.

I'll probably end up doing that when I get the cash. I appreciate all the help everyone!

One last question. If I delete my cats I hear there's a smell. How noticeable is the smell and what does it smell like? As in if someone were to just walk by my car while it was running, would they notice? Thanks again.

Hey man, This is my setup:
Hooker Longtube 3 1/2" headers
3 1/2" Hooker Catless y-pipe
4" Mufflex exhaust

I don't have cats as you can see.. There is a smell but it's not horrible at all. My 87 Camaro smelled a LOT worse than the WS6 does. It kinda smells like it's running a little rich, a little gassy maybe, it's hard to describe. But it's definitely not overpowering, and I only smell it if im standing behind the exhaust. I don't smell it from inside at all.

Thanks man. I really appreciate it. After today, I hopefully won't have anything go wrong with my car to where my dad has to help me fix it. Window motor went out. So hopefully I can do the mods and go unnoticed at least until I need some suspension/brake work.

Oh yeah. I know I keep saying this, but one last thing before I go through with this: if I remove my egr system, air pump, cats, and just take out my rear o2s, will there be any performance issues besides ses light? It may be a while after my modding til I can get it all tuned out. Sorry for all the questions, just trying to be on the safe side.

Yeah sounds like you are doing the same things as me, I've been buying parts for a while and about to put mine in the air and start tearing it apart (patriot ls6 heads, 228R cam, ls6 intake, pacesetter LT W/ORY) I already have most bolt ons and 120hp nitrous I am hoping to break the 500mark.
You are going to have to have the car tuned once you start pulling the EGR system off and start modding it.
I know what you mean about having your dad upest, LOL my dad is a gear head also he has a BBC 55 Bel Air, but gets pissed off everytime I start doing things to this Camaro and I am 23 and worked full time since I was 18 with a very good job in the orthopedic field. You should of seen his face when I brought the car home the first time! I am just gald there was now large projectilles

Mac makes a nice catted setup...There mids and some people have reported good gains...btw im not sure if you have emmisions road side checks where u are...but we do in Jersey. Not alot but if your stopped (sometimes cops will even check on a routine stop) and you have no cats your screwed.

I've never heard of ANYONE in Arkansas get in trouble for emissions or exhaust. I'm running straight pipe off my cats and I pull up to police camaros louder than mine who clearly want to race.

Can I just buy a long tube y pipe combo and use the stock mid pipe and muffler?

There are a few links in this thread that show LT/ORY combos from TSP. The aftermarket ORY will take place of the stock mid pipe, so all you would need after that would be a catback system. Or you could go true duals.

are you sure you won't? other than visual, does it change the actual output enough to fail the sniffer?

I lived in Arkansas for a short stint and let me say, you will have no problems there cause there is no emissions checks. I had LT/ORY/magnaflow and never had a problem.
