Default FAST 92mm, intake runner question???

Attached are some pictures of the intake runner. I wanted to know is there a reason why there is a gap there. Does it serve a purpose, or is it just the way it is molded together.

Also in the 3rd picture u can see how the air flow comes in through the 92mm opening then has to roll over the same hump in each runner...doesnt seem like that would aid in smooth air flow...i would think it would be better if there was more material under the hump to smooth out the transition into the runner...obviously this is in the tooling by FAST just wondering if anyone knew why it was there...

thanks

I would think its that to aid in air flow for the shape of the runner. Since the runner has a sharp turn, it would be hard for the air to turn without creating to much turbulance. so a pocket there would help with that.

I think the intake would have squirmed a little if you stuck your pinky in another hole.

yeah i get what you are saying and i agree, i just think instead of using an air pocket to aid in flow, more material could be there under the pocket where my finger is in the picture...i think i am going to add some plumbers putty into that pocket to simulate what i am thinking will help air flow and then test it at work on our air filter pressure drop machine...we will see what causes more pressure drop over the intake...the way it sits now or with the putty under the hump...

also still having to do with that hump why would they make a gap, one would think it would be better sealed...

Did you add the putty and test the pressure drop of this? Your thread helps me with your pics as I was wondering how the gasket should be if it stays all one piece or if have to cut into pieces to fit. Looks like you cut it up to work. Did you use one big piece for around the perimeter and butt the two ends in the front or back? Looks like you then cut individual pieces for the top sections and that's it and done?

I am trying to find people that port these or if maybe there is a how to on how to port these and do it my self. If you have any info please let me know.

Good thread and I am subscribed now.

Zombie thread indeed, but I'm curious as to what Chris's results were and if he tried the putty trick and stuck it on the machine.
