Default Removing waterpump

Hey guys my waterpump is leaking and I am going to replace it today. I have read on here that is quite easy to do but cannot not find any how to's or pictures. Will i need to completely drain all my coolant before removing the hoses off the old pump? And How do i go about getting the belt off the water pump? Do i just turn it somehow and guide it off?

Sorry guys for the question but I figure I just did headers that this wont be a problem, especially since the shop wants 180 for labor!

You'll need to drain the rad down, so the water level is below the pump.
The belt is removed by pulling the tensioner off the belt w/ a wrench on the pulley center bolt.

I used this one before: http://www.ls1howto.com/index.php?article=26

It's got extra stuff for swapping to a Meziere but covers swapping out the stock pump.

You going to replace the gaskets? 20-12610311

its pretty straight forward as long as you are slightly mechanically inclined. i would use the metal gasket with rubber instead of the paper gasket. follow the howto's and you should have no problem.

remove the pulley on the driver side as well...its kindda below the waterpump a little bit.

15mm socket.

its the pulley that LS1howto says is in the way for one of the bolts. removing the pulley makes the removal and install a snap.

found that out when i put my MEZ pump on.

ls1howto.com has a writ up on doing an electric water pump.

It's easy

Drain coolant. drain plug on passenger side bottom of radiator.

Remove belt. loosen tentioner with wrench

Remove bolts from water pump.

replace gaskets (2) and reverse steps.

close drain on radiator

fill coolant run car and fill radiator as coolant goes down

You will need to keep an eye on the coolant over the next few weeks and fill as water bubles work their way out of the system.

With an electric water pump, you can run the pump with the car off to remove air.
