243s ported vs stock
ok guys looks like i finally came into a set of 243s off an 07 vette.
these are going to be going on my 98 z28 6 speed.
first of all what kind of gains should i expect to see with bolting these on vs getting them ported.
second do i have to swap my stock cam out or would it work ok with the 243s

I'm not sure what would be better. My friend has an 86 mustang with an LS2 in it Diamond piston's crower rods Victor jr. FI setup TH-400 T-rex and ported 243's with big 2.02's he had trouble with water leaking through due to so much porting so we put my Stock LS1 853's stock valve size 5 angle valve job decked .030 ported (Jeremy Formoto) heads and with 1.5 less compression and the smaller valves it mad 13hp less to the wheels with 2 degree's less timing than with the other heads cause we put a second stage of nitrous on it so who knows might have made the same or more with the 853's. And get this it ran 4 tenths faster with the LS1 heads on the same stage as with the 243's. ??????????? Crazy so who knows

You will probably make around 350rwhp or so with that setup, don't get caught up on the numbers though. Those heads in stock form are a big improvement. If at somepoint you are planning on upgrading the cam, look into changing the springs before the heads are installed. It makes the task SOOO much easier. Also you can bump the compression up by milling and/or thinner headgaskets....this is relatively inexpensive and will help make more power. I would also recomend using either ARP bolts/studs when you reinstall the heads as well.
