FLP$1300 headers REALLY worth it? HELP!
I have been looking around for headers and noticed the most popular pacesetter headers are for $340 coated and $250 uncoated from Texas S&P.
Then I looked for the best headers in the market like the QTPs and the FLPs and almost had a heart attach. Those headers run almost $1300
!!!! I also looked at the SLP headers but I see that most people say they dont perform as good as the pacesetter ones and therefore are not worth $820.
Now why would someone buy those very expensive headers? Is there a big gain from those and the pacesetter ones?
What are the pros and cons of each? Do pacesetter headers (or their substitutes) have a bad side to them?
How much horsepower gain can I expect from my 02 WS6 with just an airlid and exhausts? And how much hp gain should I expect after tuning?
Being that QTPs and FLPs are expensive its common human nature to want those just because they seem to be amazing (just because of how expensive they are) but are they worth it?
Is ground clearance an issue with any set of headers?
Also if you happen to have a sound clip of your corsa with headers I'd be very interested to listen to it.
Can anyone help? I am really lost here. Cant decide whatsoever.
it'll still be cheaper to go the pacesetter route but you'll need to get a new Y pipe and cats if you need them which will add another 500 or so bucks to the final cost.
if your on a budget just go with the pacesetters and ORY if you dont need cats. that'll put you in the 550 range. havent heard too many bad things about pacesetters LT's. heard there Y pipe has some fitment issues though.
if your gonna spend 700+ on just the headers then go with the Kooks or QTP.
for a complete package you cant beat the FLP setup, everything you need to install and very little if any clearance or fitment issues.
Ill also probably need the cats as I dont want to have emission/inspection problems. It should be very loud with the cats in there anyway and I have also heard many people having rasp problems without the cats.
Also are you saying FLPs are the best way to go because if I were to put the headers on my car Ill have to spend around 1300 anyways?
As a matter of fact, i was under my car today polishing them. I have had ZERO issues with mine. Deep hollow tone (Borla) & my car is lowered 1.5 in.
IMO, it don't get any better than that. I installed them myself in approx 5.5 hours in my driveway.
Have had them on about 6 mo. & there is "slight" surface rust on the bottom of the collectors.
however, that is to be expected as mine is driven daily. 113K & counting.......

heres how it breaks down if you get most of the stuff from TSP:
pace setters coated - 339.99
pacesetters ORY - 124.99
carsound high flow cats to weld into the ORY - 300/pair
o2 extensions - 25.00
o2 sims (for rear o2 sensors) - 89.99

all equals about 880 not including tax and shipping. as you can see it all adds up.
now with that said, its still cheaper then the flp setup but its pretty close. if you have ls1edit you can remove the rear o2 sensor codes and you wont need the o2 sims.
also you could probably pick some up alot cheaper the 89 bucks and could find some used ones too. same for o2 extensions.
i dont know if the pacesetters come with all the bolts and clamps you need, the flp's does.

The pacesetters are still $420 cheaper though. Keep in mind that the $1300 flp price does not include 02 sensors either so its actually at least over $500 cheaper or lets just stay at $400 cheaper to be fair since ill have to buy some clamps (if the pacesetter ones dont include them).
PewterY2KZ28, what did the $450 include? cats? 02 stuff? did you get all clamps and other necesary parts?
Were they used? did you get them as a group purchase? where did you get them from?
BTW, do they flps flow better?

i dont know how anxious you are to get headers but if you wait you can see if any sponsors are gonna be having any GP deals. or if your not opposed to used you can check the sales forum here, there are always great deals.
i picked up my jet hot coated LT's and custom Y pipe with carsound cats and o2 extensions for 600 used from a board member and i bought my magnaflow catback new for 300 from a board sponsor.
900 bucks aint bad for a full exhuast setup. only thing extra i had to buy was a 3" flange collector for the I pipe for the magnaflow and that was 15 bucks.
also you dont need new o2 sensors you'll need extensions and o2 sims.
but quite a big chunk was for the merge collector I will be waiting til spring to put everything on so I better see some BIG gains
1) For those of you that have paid under $500 I assume that all of you dont have cats correct?
2) SSactionLs1, you mentioned 485 for coated pacesetter LT and Coated y-pipe. Did those include all the clamps and stuff you'll need to install?
3) PWRTRIP, what brand of headers do you have? QTPs?
4) For those that have the pacesetters LTs any fitment issues with the y-pipe?
5) Also anyone think the FLPs are BETTER than the pacesetters?
6) To pass emissions inspection etc. Will I need the cats to be included with the LT and Y-pipe?
7) Any rasp issues for those of you with/without the cats?
Sorry for the many questions but I really need the help.
