Default 243 question

ok well i just picked up a set of low mile 243s off a vette. i was given the vette pushrods and rockers. i was just wondering when i do the head swap on my 98z if i should just use the stock rockers and push rods from my car or if i should use the ones off the vette. or are they the same? also what head gasket is best to use?

unmilled 243s? stock cam? are you going with the newer lifters? you will want to use a pushrod checker, but you will be good with the stockers with stock cam and unmilled heads.

What you should do is buy a cam package to go with those 243s! TSP will have the cam, springs, pushrods and all gaskets for your swap! Oh, better get a better intake on there while you've got it all apart.

See sig below!

I am wanting to do the same thing you are doing. I wonder how much HP I would gain from 243's and a LS6 intake on a stock LS1?

since you have the heads off already....why NOT put a thinner head gasket on it?

boost compression and build a little bit more power.

if you do put thinner gaskets, it would be worth checking the pr length.

if i'm not mistaken, the pushrods from the vette will be the wrong size for your ls1...since the ls6 cam has a different base circle.
don't quote me on that though.

stock 243s plus the ls6 intake...should easily see 25hp.

you'll proably need it retuned....more air will likely make it lean

unmilled 243 will actually put your stock ls1 at 10.5, a thinner gasket will only raise the scr even more, it will allow for a healthy cam upgrade, however u must also take into consideration a tune, ptv clearanace, pr length. etc.
imo find a 02 ls6 cam, with matching pr, ugrade the springs, mill .005 just get flat surface and use 6.0 mls gaskets. even with these parts u will be at
425bhp range with stock manifolds. pretty much same spec as a ls6 but with conventional valves.
