Default Lids really worth it?

I know you only gain maybe 4hp from a lid, but I've seen people take off their lid, and square air filter and just stick a cone filter on the end of their intake, it seems to me that would give you about the same kind of gain? The only thing I could argue against it would be the lid would concentrate more airflow into the engine.

People get the lid because you can pick up a used one for around 70bucks or a brand new one for $100. It ads maybe like 5rwhp, but the most important thing everyone likes I think is the look, it cleans up the bay and looks like its SUPPOSE to be there. Rather then those random airfilters sitting there.

Yep, a lid should be your fist mod and they are good for about 20hp.

They are a great first or second mod, and are worth more than 4/5 hp

20 hp

man i need that one.

a lid is better than any other induction system. It gets the nice cool air from the outside. Instead of another type of induction system that seems get the air from inside the hot engine bay

maybe it was just in my head, but once i put on the lid and k&n when my car was stock, at 70 in 5th i felt a lil extra kick. perhaps it was just the sound it made now that it didnt have the silencer. i think lids are worth it

Did the SLP lid come in the first place in gm high tech comparison? I also heard that its a real good idea to do the free ram air mod before installing a lid?

Is there any improvement in the sound department with a lid?

cleans up throttle response, adds a bit of power, and helps add more when you do other things. Perfect first mod.

Minor sound change, mostly feel.

it wasn't #1 in overall flow / performance but i think it might have been #2 and it was like 1hp or some thing but the slp was the only one made of abs plastic like the oem and had the best fit and seal. do the free ramair mod and get a k&n, but DON'T wast the money on the sheet metal cold air intake

Definitely not a 20hp gain unless there is a hair dryer attached to the side of the lid blowing cold air in.
