The motor mounts keep the motor from rocking left to right, and the trans mount keeps it from rocking up and down if that makes sense.

I had an old Buick Wildcat motor once that had a
factory torque strap, a steel "bridge" between two
head bolts (outers were not under the vale cover)
and a swaged cable from that to the upper A-arm.
Looked solid, it was a 445 lb-ft motor back in the
day on soft rubber mounts.
