DO NOT USE ED's TUNING AFTER THE RERING OF THE MOTOR!!

Good luck
Mike Norris will be tuning it with LS1Edit in his shop after he fixes everything.

Oh, I'm definitely cursed, no doubt.

Mine was so clogged up I couldn't rev above 3k. There were some screens melted into a softball size ball moving around and blocking the outlet pipe.

Is it possible to clean them and make them as good as new, or are they shot when they get clogged?

My screen was melted into a ball. That's not fixable. What usually happens is the screens melt. I doubt anything would enter the cat cause it would have to come from the engine and that would mean you got bigger problems.

I was just told by a few muffler/exhaust shops that a cat can only get red hot if the motor is running rich.
They said if it was clogged or blocked the exhaust would just get backed up, but would not make it glow red.

What do you think?

A shop here will tack them off and weld on two 3" straight pipes for $80.00, is that a good price to do that?

It can be from too low timing and too rich or from extreme lean conditions. (Very high EGT's)

Mine was backed up, I don't know if it glowed red cause I didn't check. If you have no loss of power then yours is probably not backed up.

$80 for 2 pipes is a pretty standard price. I would do it. Why don't you have them flanged so that you can put cats in there at a later time if you want to. Flange the cats too so you can swap them whenever. Just a thought.

Yes, that's how mine looked. Except imagine all that melted into one big ball. I don't think that's fixable.

Mine has to be melted somewhat if the bitch was glowing red like a turbo glows when it gets hot.

Those things are coming off and staying off.

How about running a straight pipe through the cat after hollowing out the cat so the coppers don't know its unusable????
