Default Slp Headers... Facts

Ok. I'm looking for facts not favorites. People say there headers suck, has ANYONE changed there slp headers and found a hp gain to justify a change. Please let me know. I'll change if I have to but I hate to waste the money if it's not worth it. I know someone has the info, please share it. Thanks Andy

I generally like SLP stuff, after all they made my car an SS. But I don't run their headers . . . why? They hang too damn low and I don't like scraping on everything. I doubt the HP difference between all the different long tubes on the market is more that 5 or 6 hp; but then if you are a serious racer that counts. If you already have them and don't plan on lowering your car, I'd stick with them.

If you ever plan on lowering forget it, buddy had them with a prokit, basically took the collector right off of the drivers side.

They aren't the best performing headers out there and they hang low as all hell. A friend of mine replaced his SLPs with Kooks and saw enough of a gain from them that I decided to sell mine even before installing them.

if you have them i'd keep them, not worth swapping them out for a minimal gain like Cal said. the thing about SLP headers to me is that for the money they charge for them you can get some like qtp or kooks that have no clearance issues and are stainless steel.

For the money you would spend on changing your headers, why wouldn't you install a cam instead? You may see 5-10 HP difference between a set of SLP headers and a set of Kooks. But for money you spend on the Kooks and the swap you would be far better off to get a cam or something.

I looked at a lot of different headers, none were without drawbacks. I settled on the SLP's because the SLP products usually fit well and work well without too many problems. I like the OEM style cats and SLP seems to not have any banging issues. Oh and I got a set from one of our sponsors for $850 shipped with cats. I can deal with some low haning issues for that.

The special going on right for SLP headers is a badass deal, I am seriously considering placing my order for a set.

I currently have a set of SLP headers for sale in the parts section.

I switched to Jet Hot's since a lot of people (sponsors too) say I will pick up about 10 HP at the wheels. Not true!

With the same tuning, I dyno'd 3HP & 7Ft TQ less going to Jet Hot's LT's. I guess SLP aren't that bad after all.

Yes, SLP LT's do hang low, but once their in, they don't hit or bang a damn thing, plus they are a nice quality product. If you don't lower your car, you won't have any clearance issues unless you go over speed bumps at 15-20 MPH.

They aren't the best performing out there, but not so poor as to warrant a change. If you plan on lowering your car, it does. They do not like speed bumps or dips in the road or anything of the sort, especially on lowered cars. I've heard a few times fitment being an issue, but its not a widespread issue.

Thanks, they do hang low but that wasn't the issue. I'm just looking for HP! I'm trying to justify the change. Thanks again. Andy

Then it comes down to is another 5 or 6 hp worth $700 for a better performing set of stainless steel headers, minus what you could sell the SLP's for. Don't forget all the labor in changing them over, plus you may need a different Y pipe or to modify the one you have. I won't make the judgement for you, but that's the decision you have to make.

Andy,

If you don't lower your car and your not looking to make your car a dyno queen, then the SLP LT Headers will be fine for you. I was a bit shocked when I lost HP by going to Jet Hot's. I'll say it again, SLP are not that bad for high HP.
