Default *UPDATED* VERY annoying squeek, no idea what it is!

Ok, after my h/c i have gotten a loud persistant squeek that is coming from my engine and is very loud. It speeds up when the rpm's go up(seems to go away after 2k) and it slows down when they are at idle, so that makes me think it's a belt, or some acc, or my drivetrain? Now, my first question is, what does a failing water pump sound like when it's going? I checked out the tensioner, and it isnt bouncing, so I dont think it's either of them. What's a good way to check for a squeek? I'm hoping somehting just needs a little lube so it'll go away, also the squeek comes on strong when it is humid/raining. The other night when it rained i checked the belt and it was 100% dry, i have no idea what or where it is.
someone help me plz!
thanks
-Steve

It's a chance it's the idler tensioner pulley, you could spray a little W-D 40 on the back side and see if it goes away.

When my WP went out it was more of a "chirp".
Take your belt off, start the car, see if this goes away.
Also, wiggle your WP where the belt lies. If it moves from side to side the the bearings are worn out. My experience, only sharing it......... hope it helps.

I dotn really know too much about these cars. I have just started driving them about a year ago, but in the past when I have had that problem, it has been my U-joints , of course that was on trucks. Are you 100% sure its coming from the engine, and is it squeeking sitting still, or moving?

it's from the engine 100% and it does it parked or moving.

Did any coolant drip on the belts anytime lately? When I got this problem, it was due to coolant on the belt which glazed it over on the edge. With the engine running, spray some water out of a spray bottle on the belt and different pulleys as it runs. You'll find it if it's the belts. Don't forget to do the A/C belt, too.

Sounds like your belts are glazed. Replace both belts and it will probably go away. And no, the glaze won't go away on it's own. You could try taking a wire brush to the smooth side of the belts. Either way you do it, don't forget to do a good job cleaning up the pulleys, or your new belts may do the same thing after a while.

Ok, i got some belt dressing and I put that on the ribbed side of the belt while the car was running, and the noise went away immediately. Left the car running, and it would come back, even louder. *shrugs* So now I know it's not the motor, it's the belt or a pully. So I sprayed all the pully's, yep, same exact result. Time for water, same exact result. The f'n squeek wont go away! ARGH! I am thinking i may have to get a new belt and clean all the pully's, but what do I clean them with(i think they have coolant on them)? Also how much is a new belt and where can i get one pretty cheap?
thanks

Default this should fix it

Just go down to the parts store and get the belts. I think it was like 25 bucks for both. You can clean up the pulleys with some emery cloth. If all the pulleys are lined up correctly, cleaning the pulleys up and replacing the belts will fix it. I'd save the old belts for an emergency spare too.

Brake wash will clean the pulleys real well. While you have the vbelt off check all your pulleys for move ment grab them and move them up down left and right if any move they are trash.

I would suggest the brake cleaner also, don't spray the cleaner on the pulley, if the cleaner gets into the bearings you could be f___ed. Spray the cleaner on a clean shop rag then wipe the pulley down. JMO

I had a very annoying squeak like a slipping belt on a hoopty that drove me crazy for three months. After I replaced most of my accessory pullies and it was still there, I checked my A/C belt and tensioner. put a ratchet on the tensioner bolt with the engine running, (do not advise this) and tensioner was very tight to the point that it would stick and allow the belt to slip. Replaced belt and A/C tensioner, NO MORE SQUEAK!!! This is a very annoying sound!!! Hope this fixes your problem.
