Post header install. Questions about brackets and heat shielding.
My only real problems that I have a vibration at idle and lower speeds caused by the passenger side header hitting the factory heat shield and the fact that the car is running rich.
I have a 1998 so I removed the AIR/EGR and plugged the hole in the LS1 intake. But I'm using O2 sims and O2 exensions. Do they all run this rich after a header install? I can live with it so I'm not going to get it tuned until I get a cam and intake.
One thing I never saw in any of the write-ups was whether or not to remove the factory heat shielding. I left it. When I installed the headers I could see that there probably wasn't but 1-2mm between them, but decided I didn't know the negative effects of taking off the shield so I didn't touch it. I don't have any problems with the header or y-pipe hitting my floorboard thanks to the poly mounts, but the vibration is annoying. I did try to flatten it as much as possible prior to installing it.
I think by removing the heat shield it'll go away. How will this effect the interior temperature of the car and passenger side floorboard? Will it do anything? Keep in mind that about half of the time in the car is spent with my wife who is not use to obnoxiously loud and uncomfortable cars.
Also, I broke one of my brackets on my catback and I can't find where to buy new ones. Any ideas?
