Default Run In With Exhaust Police

Well as luck would have it I was finally stopped for loud exhaust. I have the tr224/112 cam and hooker LT's w/orp, and the hooker catback and it was pretty loud. I know some of you guys say the complete hooker system is just right but mine really screams. What can I do to tame it down a bit? Would a bullet muffler in the I pipe quiet it much? Also I see hooker has 3" straight thru aero chamber mufflers, anyone know if one of them will fit up under the car in the I pipe?

Thanks,
Jeremy

I totally agree with ya on the loud car. I put my stock muffler on for the cop and got the ticket waived til next time he said. But I'm puttin the hooker catback on this winter. Just wondering if I could tone it down a tad not too much cause I'm a firm believer in loud pipes save lives

I know there is mixed opinions on the CCI inserts, however, they worked on my car. I am running Pacesetter LT's, ORY, and Hooker catback. It was loud as hell. Most guys were putting one in the I-pipe. I used two 3" ones in the ORY just behind the O2's. It still has a wonderfull deep rumble, that nice sound when I shift above 3k RPM, and I realized I still have a stereo. I do not have any track or Dyno results. I do think that the throttle response is much better now. I felt that just using one in the I-pipe was way to restrictive. That terriable rasp and cackle around 2,000 to 2,600 RPM is gone. I can kick it in town and not hear a 20 block echo. Also the local police force no longer follows me around

When you're working with LTs and an ORY, cutous just don't sound as good as a nice catback. Usually cops don't hassle people about loud exhaust unless it's ungodly loud (like open LTs), or they hear you going WOT and are looking for a reason to pull you over, or of coruse if you treat them poorly during a traffic stop for something un-related (like speeding) and they start looking for things wrong with your car.

Stick with the setup you like and don't sweat it...

What's going to be louder? Pacesetter LT's, ORY, and Hooker Catback... or Pacesetter LT's, X-pipe, and 2 dynomax bullets dumped?

Isn't the hooker catback 50 state legal? Like the claim on flowmaster mufflers. Take the claim into court and continue to enjoy your sweet sounnd. Just a thought, cause I don't know.

Is it louder than a gmmg?

Well since I've never heard gmmg with LT's & orp I'm not sure. Yeah I tried argueing the hooker 50 state legal stuff but he said anything that isn't stock is illegal Who knows with cops. I'm just glad to see that he wasn't smart enough to try and look underneath the z and see no cats that could of been way worse.

The gmmg with ory is very loud, it sounds alot better with cats since theres not really any rasp with cats and i used to have a hooker cat-back and the gmmg system is alot louder and sounds better

Technoman64, what are CCi inserts? I'm having this same problem right now. A member named Cal said he uses a XR1 Borla muffler that is really quiet under 3k but loud as hell when flooring it. This is exactly what I'm looking for. QTP race headers into a dual 3" into single 4" Y-pipe with loudmouth = your head ringing for an hour if I rev it next to you. I have dual cutouts in the Y so I was thinking of running a stock exhaust but then it would be totally quiet to as loud as it gets and I would have no medium. Plus I enjoy a nice exhaust tone when I'm just driving around. The cutouts are really just for fun when civics try to rev on me.

Thanks for all of the comments so far guys. I guess personally I love the way my car sounds with the setup I have and I'm not looking to change it nor do I have the cash to right now. I'm just trying to get some ideas of ways to tone it down a bit if ya know what I mean. Not make it totally quiet like stock but just keep a nice deep tone without the crazy loud noises. How good do the bullets work at reducing some sound?
