Default Starter motor

Starter motor mounting problem.
I have a crate engine/gearbox (LS2 with T56 Tuet2066)

The starter motor fits the engine and alligns to flywheel (without gearbox)
The gearbox attaches to the engine (without starter motor).

Obviously I have the wrong starter motor.
Not sure how to describe it, the sheild that covers the teeth hits the bell housing. I just can not get the starter in the hole.

What starters are available.
If I look to after market suppliers what information do I need to give them.

Any help would be appreciated

I was about to say that looks exactly like my '03 Corvette starter until seeing the next-to-last pic. My "inside" bolt is much shorter, maybe 1 1/2" long while the outer bolt is maybe 4" long. That longer cast-in bolt boss may be interfering with the bellhousing...

Your starter in the picture is a Lester #6492 (GM P/N #9000853 or 12563907). Obviously it takes the two equal length mounting bolts. The other two factory starters that I know of for the LSx motors are the Lester #6482 (GM P/N #9000834 or 9000866) which uses the short inboard mounting bolt, but completely interchanges with the 6492.

The other one comes on the 04-06 GTOs- it's a Mitsubishi starter (Mits. P/N #M0T85582
or GM P/N #92169668) and has the equal length mounting bolts as well:

Hope that info helps.

That explains a great deal, thank you very much.
Looks like I have a LS2 bell housing and a LS1 starter.
All the best Kevin.
