Question part numbers for 98 LS1 starter bolts

I have FOUR part numbers for these bolts for some reason. Could someone verify the part numbers I need before I order them?

I have 12561848, 12561387, but then I have 12558858 and 12555160. Are the pn's different for a 98 than 99+?

Thanks for any help,
Z

The second set you list are the correct numbers. It appears from the manual that the part numbers are different for the '99+.

Damn. I just called TSP, Scoggin Dickey, and the local Chevy dealership. They all say that 12558858 is a bad number. The guy at the dealership said that PN 11588456 will probably work. Does anyone know for sure?

I went to Autozone and got metric GM STARTER BOLTS. The pn it has is 45636 (in the upper left corner), and the manufacturer is DORMAN (and it says HELP! in the upper right corner of the package in white letters).

They look VERY similar to the bolts in your pic, 7th Darkness, one long and one short. I'll see if these work. I thought about getting these ones too: http://paceperformance.com/index.asp...&ProdID=218798 but the ones at Autozone were cheaper and on the shelf.

It will be a while until I install the starter, but I'll let you know how the bolts work out. Thanks for the help guys.

Ok those bolts were TOTALLY wrong.

I'll keep looking; trying to figure out what size bolts I need (98 block).

ok, obviously I'm missing something here. According to this post: https://ls1tech.com/forums/generatio...rt-lookup.html , the specs for the starter bolts are M10x1.5x113 for the outboard bolt, and M10x1.5x46 for the inboard bolt.

Well the GM bolts I got from Autozone are M10x1.5x113mm and M10x1.5x45mm, so they should work. Obviously this is not working, not even close:

What am I missing?? The right bolt will not go any further than it is in the pic. If I have an LS1 starter and LS1 bolts, uhhh, why isn't this working? Block is a 98, if that makes a difference...

Thanks man. Would you happen to have a pic of your 98 starter so I could compare mine?

Ok I think I found a pic. I believe this pic is a starter on a Corvette C5:

Sucks that a chunk of engine block broke off!!! Anyway, on the left side in that pic, the bolt flange looks MUCH shallower than mine, and on the other side it looks longer, so now I'm starting to see why the starter I got won't work.

If someone could confirm that their 98 starter looks like this one^^ I'll buy you a cookie and a gold star.

Thanks again guys,
Z

I will look up some stuff for you on monday when I get to work, I work for GM. Its a possibility that those different numbers are for an auto car and the other are for an M6 car. Just my guess, but I'll check it out for you.

Just picked up a starter from advanced auto, and it looks exactly the same :banghead:

GM starter has the shorter bolt on the side closer to the motor.

Did you end up changing the starter or getting a different bolt?

I ended up getting a new starter. It came with bolts.

BUT, I'm building another LS1 and got a starter like the one above, and now I need bolts again. lol

I'm not sure why but this time around, but I have a gut feeling that 12561387 is the correct part number. SDPC sells this part number.

Also, gmpartshouse says "Part number 12561387 was superseded by part number 11588456." I ordered two of them; when they come in I'll let you guys know if they work.

Default update

Well, 11588456 has changed to 11610787. Turns out that 11610787 is the correct part number.

Works perfectly with my starter that requires the two long bolts:

It's bolted to the engine block now, no problems.

Default Starter bolts, wrong bolts from Chevrolet

I also purchased a set of bolts from Bradley Chevrolet, wrong bolts. both too long.
So I took the starter in same issue, B.C. even pulled a starter off the shelf, same issue.
All (non Corvette) have equal bolts, I purchased two 10mmx 1.5 x 100mm bolts from Ace Hardware and they work great, only issue they have a normal hex head so a washer is needed.

You have a truck starter, not an actual f-body starter. F bodies had one short bolt and one long bolt. Trucks have the 2 long bolts. The dorman part number would work but you just need two long bolts.

You actually have the updated starter.......It works on the cars and trucks but you need the longer bolt.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Start...Q5fAccessories there it is with the new bolt.
