Default Should I got to stepped Kooks?

My heads and cam are going in next week....along with Yella Terra 1.7's, Comp R lifters, and all the other goodies. The heads are stage 2 5.3's from Absolute, and the cam is a Comp XE-R 230/236 cam. I have Hooker LT's now w/ORP, and Loudmouth.

I sort of wanted to get a set of Kooks 1 3/4 1 7/8 stepped headers w/ORP. I have heard a lot of good things about them. I hear that I may pick up some HP, but I will see a difference under the curve in terms of TQ.

If I can get rid of the Hookers....should I get them??

I also may add a 75-150 shot of nitrous later also.

Let me know

Thanks

I wouldn't think that stepped would be very effective unless they go into a bigger exhaust. I'd get duals if I got the stepped headers, would sound better too. Just my $.02

I was in the same situation as you. I was told by Kooks that if I planned on spraying the heads/cam set-up, then yes, get the Kooks. If not, don't worry about it. Edelbrock also makes a 1 3/4 to 1 7/8 stepped longtube FYI.

For a 150 shot of nitrous I would. For less than that I'd just stay with 1 3/4" straight.

Man....all the shops that I talk to say that it is a good idea. Even on just a H/C car. If I do it...would I lose anything (other than money), I mean...will I lose TQ or HP?

Thanks for the feedback so far guys!!

I too am thinking about these headers, I plan on a H/C setup in the next couple of months and talked to Nick at Kooks and he said at about 430-440rwhp you will benefit from the stepped design, and even if you are not quite at that amount of power there should not be any power loss down low from the stepped design over just the regular 1 3/4 header.
