Default Is it typical for new headers to smoke?

I just installed some long tubes and now when the car is running there is smoke coming out of the engine bay. I think it might just be the paint on the headers, but then it would make more sense if it was coming out of the exhaust. Is this normal or do I have a problem?

did you use PB blaster or anything? that burned off when i first started mine. also maybe if you spilled some oil on the header or it may just be the paint.

i used some liquid wrench to take off the bolts from the old manifolds to the cats, maybe its burning off some of that from the sprays that i missed bolts with?

Yeah it's just the grease and oil off your hands. No biggie.

Also if they are painted headers they usually smoke a little when the paint cures.

Yes, when you install headers, lots of white smoke will come out of your engine bay. I just put blockoff plates on my AIR tubes the other day and even they smoked quite a bit for 5 minutes, so expect lots from headers. Especially stainless headers - they smoke a lot.

Default Longtubes

After you install long tube headers they will always smoke from any grease or solvent on your hands and the painted long tubes always smoke a lot because they are burning off all the paint. The ceramic coated headers will smoke sometimes from you handling them but much less.

if they are painted headers and the paint starts to fall off ,wipe them down with tranny fluid a couple time to slow down rusting .an old dirt track trick.

Only way headers WON'T smoke after they're installed is to use medical gloves to install them and get NOTHING on them while you're installing them. Greese, oil, **** like that.

Mine smoke after every spark plug change too. Its just from our grubby *** hands touching them.

I'm installing some LT headers and y-pipe next weekend. I had no idea they would smoke! You guys saved me a LOT of panic and anxiety.
