Default Black POR-15 on FAST intake

Anyone ever do this? It's like a poor man's powdercoating and better than rattle can paint. I don't have my intake yet but don't want silver and have a pint of black. I was kicking around the idea of just coating it up.

With an investment like the FAST, I would just have someone base/clear it. You could have it professionally painted for $150 or less in black.

Paint doesn't hold up as well though and a little fuel kills it.

por-15 is a great sealant but i wouldnt want it under my hood because it doesnt look like a show finish paint. for example i used it on my calipers.

What's up Mr.Leeper?

You switch camps?

What am I looking at? I got rid of my Buick when the getting was good. They are still cool just don't think they will have the people step up to keep parts for them.

I called POR-15 and they said sure. The hood isn't open enough to do any UV damage if that was what the link was for.

My brother is a body man for a company that distributes this stuff. One thing I can say about it is it's some really tough stuff. We've done car frames with it after blasting and they come out great. Also, they have a semi-gloss coating if I'm not mistaken. That may look a bit better than the standard black...? Is that what you have?

I would get their black coat to coat afterwards as it has a shiny black finish that will last.

Default I did it!

Kind of hard those first couple brush strokes on such an expensive piece. But it turned out pretty good and I did no sanding or anything. I plan on doing the top parts with a second coat (maybe via roller) and calling it good. It should look fine under the hood with everything bolted in place.

Sanding the top would have given a better finish for sure I just didn't feel like fooling with it.

Are you speaking from personal experience? It's hard to remove off of anything including skin! Why would it peel?

If you decide to do this use a small roller on the upper parts you can reach easy. Use a good 1" bristle brush in the areas around and for the little nooks buy a couple assorted size model brushes in the tight spots.

i have been in the paint industry for 22yrs.have used product for years.it will go on nice and look good but if you get a chip or abraison any where it will let go/PEEL.a top quality auto paint single stage or base clear would be best asuming it was prepted right(this is most important part).paint dose hold up to gas spills/eng oil.heat is no problem with paint .
