Question What Oil to Use for Air Conditioner?

I have to Recharge my A/C because of my 408 install. The tag under the Hood says use Only synthetic oil ,but I can't find Synthetic oil for A/C at the Auto parts stores. So do I have to go to GM for oil?Or Can I use regular oil at the Auto parts store?
Thanks!!!

you need to use the synthetic for use with the r-134a. I thought that it was available at parts stores, many times in a can of 134a so that it is easy to put in, but you may need to get it from GM. It is sold (or was sold years ago) in quart containers. You may also find that you still have some oil in the system depending on how you drained in. keep that in mind so that you don't overcharge with oil. I think it only takes like 4 oz or so.

PAG oil

Was oil recovered from the system when it was emptied? If not, then no need to add any.

To elaborate on a previous comment, unless you replaced many components in the system, you don't need to add oil. If you add too much oil, your system won't be efficient, so be careful. When these systems leak, they typically don't leak oil. Even when you drain them of refrigerant, you don't lose much oil.

I wouldn't do more than 10% of what your system calls for.

Spec calls for 9 oz. of PAG 150.

A little extra oil will not hurt a thing.

If you did not empty any oil out of the compressor or any other lines then you do not need to add any. IF you for some reason are dead set on adding oil dont add more than just a few ounces, 1 or 2. If you over charge with oil its not a good thing. I would replace the accumulator because there is a moisture absorbent material in there, desiccant, that is fully saturated since the system has been open. Then just button the system back up, bring it to an AC shop and they will pull a vacuum on it for 20 mins or so to get the moisture out and then charge it up for you. Pulling a vacuum on the system after its been open is a MUST.
