looked at bauer's website, looks like a VERY nice piece, I love the grape powdercoating on it. what kind of gains did you see with that TB on your modified car?

An a4 that dynos 302 is pretty impressive.

And a 99 at that!

Very cool. From the good things being said on here, to the low cost of the mod, I can't find a reason not to go ahead and get one myself.

Nope, that was the original plan but my timing cover seal took a **** and starting puking oil everywhere. Fixed now. I'll hopefully dyno tomorrow if I can wake up in time...

Did you get that package? I sent that warmer and the money next day air last week.

Just bolt it on, no tuneing needed. just like the ls6 intake, the maf will pick up the additional air and add extra fuel to match.
I was running 12.20's at 114 and then added a ported tb that a freind ported for me just before last years thunder shootout and went with a 1 tenth better 60 ft I ran 11.80's at 117mph.
I would recommend this to everyone as it did great on my car

Josh

You gained a lot of HP because you leaned it out with the extra air going in. If you would have swapped it and then drove the car for 100 miles then dyno'd, I'd bet you would have only gained 4-6 HP.

And just FYI, there was this guy with a heads/cam & all the bolt-ons '99 M6 SS at one of our local dyno days at Speed Inc last spring who dynoed exactly 413rwhp with the STOCK TB and then redynoed at exactly 411rwhp with the addition of the BAUER TB on the very next pull. So while it may have been productive on this bone stock '99 A4 T/A, that doesn't mean it will work on another car (like this highly modified one I just mentioned). And this is no BS, I was there and saw everything (including the dyno sheet)...

Who's car was that Mike's, I8Cobra?

I think a ported TB is good for a stock car AND for sure a built 346ci OR a stroker.

Mike,

I think I've heard of this but that seems really odd to me. Something is going on there with the A/F or something if added CFM makes the car loose power. A higher power car needs more airflow than a lower powered car so if anything the car should make more. If it didn't then there is a reason why. I'm pretty sure that a stock TB being dropped on a flow bench vs a ported one will show some really good gains in airflow.

Yeah PSJ, it was Pete's 99 SS.

Don't ask me why, but it actually showed a minor loss in power. But SStrokerAce, I didn't know that an aftermarket throttle body could change the cars AFR (I thought that only usually happens when playing around with the MAF). All I know is that his tune was "perfect" through Speed Inc with the stock throttle body, and on that same tune, the car lost two rear wheel horsepower with the Bauer one. Would an aftermarket TB really mess up the AFR that much to actually cost it power considering it should be so much better than the stocker on a high horsepower LS1 such as his??

What was the AFR on the dyno, versus stock?

Mike, I'll ask Pete to visit the thread, but frankly we've been playing with ported TB's for five years and they work. On the dyno I've seen anywhere from 5-10rwhp. I think I was there the day that he pulled 413rwhp but I don't recall a TB getting swapped on the dyno but that was a year ago.

I've got a Bauer TB and the quality is first rate. I don't have back to back numbers, but it sure looks like it would flow alot more air then stock.

can you post the runs (with air fuel b4 or after)

i'm curious if this mod generates power by leaning out the a/f ratio.

It sounds like a ported TB is making more power than I thought. For the money it's not a bad mod to do. I might get one in the spring.
