Strange whining upon exceleration...?

Strange whining upon exceleration...? Hey there!
Thanks in advance for any help you guys can provide - for the past couple days my ride has this whine it makes when I excelerate. It's coming from under the hood and it only does it when excelerating (not turning, braking, or de-excel) and the whine gets higher pitched the higher the RPM's??? I've never heard this on any other car I've had so I'm kinda stumped, any ideas??

1st of all it's ACCELERATING...not EXCELERATING!!! now since that's off my chest a whine can be anything: a bad bearing, water pump, idler pulley, alternator, or the serpentine belt tensioner. What I usually do when identifying where the noise is coming from is by getting a long screwdriver or metal pole and while the car is running (if throttling it produces the noise then do it) and just place the screwdriver on various objects that you presume the noise to be coming from. the vibrations will act as a cheap stethoscope and alert you where the problem is. you need to give us more information such as which side of the engine bay and what not...

I'm now wondering if maybe its the Power steering pump??? I looked and the PS fluid housing is "messy" like its leaked but its level..? How hard is it the fix the Power steering pump/how expensive is that usually? would bad alignment mess the PS up?? Thanks for any advice!
