Default 01-02 AIR system question...

Maybe I dont know how to search but I can't find anything about what this is or what it does, so can someone help me out?

Behind the intake manifold, attached to the back of the head, there is a small pump looking thing that connects to my AIR system. It has 3 big hoses going into it and 1 small vaccum hose on top. This is where the 98-00 models just have a T fitting that connects the hose for the AIR system but why does mine have this extra thing? The vaccum hose on top connects to this sensor that looks like it does nothing...

My question is what does this do and does it affect anything if I leave it disconnected like the second picture? I would think that having a loose hose like that would suck air in but I dont know where it would go? Can I take the whole pump looking thing and the sensor that the vaccum lines connect to out completely? Or what is the proper way to remove an AIR system on an 01-02?

This pictures shows the vaccum hose connected to the sensor

This picture shows the vaccum hose disconnected

And this is the piece removed

Its a real simple fix. Its a vacuum line so you need to plug it. I took a good tight fitting screw or small bolt. Test fit some and find the right size. Put some red/blue/black permatex on the threads. Your choice of which color. And gently screw it in where it seats snuggly. Done!!

Can I plug it where it connects to the sensor that way I can remove the part in the last picture? If so, what is the sensor and where does that second vaccum line that connects to it go to?

damnit, so no one knows what that box connected to the plug is and where that second vaccum hose goes? There has to be SOMEONE out there who has done an AIR removal on an '02 SS the proper way........

You can just undo everything and route it instead of teeing off to the AIR system plug the original line into the intake manifold....done. Remove all that ****.

I just went and looked at mine. I left the box in there, it has two vacuum lines going into it. I left the first one attached and the 2nd short vacuum line I plugged with a screw and permatex. If you want to remove the box then unplug it, remove both vacuum lines off of it, ditch the short vacuum line and then plug the long vacuum line with a screw.

You take the line that TEES into the AIR sensor, and rather then have it TEE you plug it directly into the vacuum source and remove ALL AIR associated plug in and sensors....Its not rocket science. You also lose a couple ozs off the front end and make the engine bay look cleaner.

The person above me did it the super simple/lazy way. All you have to do is follow the hard line to the plastic tee and then plug it from where it tees and goes to the vaccum source directly into the vacuum source....no extra plugs/harnesses/hard lines, and your car runs the way every car without AIR injection does.

Thats true, I did it about an hour before I went to the track bc I was shooting for 8s and I figured the AIR system removed would get me there. Who really gives a **** if there is one extra little line there?

I tucked my line behind something and I never pluged it. Never seem to hurt anything.
