Default Any FTRA owners have cooling problems?

This is the first summer I've had A/C since I purchased my FTRA years ago. My water temp with A/C on has been running in the 230's during my daily commute with a dexcool/water wetter/distilled mix. With A/C off it tended to run in the 190's. I have a 160* stat and fans set to come on at 17x/18x. As a test I took out the FTRA and the temps dropped to the 190's with the A/C on (and the A/C felt a bit cooler also).

I just finished douching my cooling system with about 40 gallons of distilled water, and Prestone radiator cleaner. Right now I'm using a bottle of WW and the remainder is distilled water. A/C temps are still running in the 220's and non-AC tends to be in the upper 180's or low 190's.

So I'm going to have the condenser cleaned and if that doesn't show a considerable improvement I need to consider removing the FTRA altogether.

Any other FTRA owners have cooling problems?

I had the same issue as you, so I removed my FTRA. I think I'm running about 170-180 with ac on. When wheather cools off I will put it back on.

I seal mine with RTV so it's just a pain to R&R it every time. I also wish the FTRA had some sort of interior cable-activated control where I could block off the opening. It's not practical to screw on the provided metal blockoff plate when one stumbles into heavy rain and has concern about water splashing into the filter.

Yup I built my own type of setup and as soon as I put it on my temps have gone from 190 degrees to 225 with the a/c on hot days. My fans are always running and they never had to work until the car was over 196. Now the car wont stay below 200 with the fans running. Every since I built that damn intake I have all sorts of problems and my car runs slower.

The only time I had an issue with my SSRA was when the top piece had slid out from under the lower airbox and was resting against the radiator. I since screwed it fast to the upper radiator support. If installed properly, there should be at minimum of an inch gap the entire length of the SSRA.

No problems here been on the car for about 3 years now. Like PAGreggSS said, it should have a gap, and the air should get to the radiator just fine.

I remove the lower part of the FTRA that bolts to the front air dam in the summer. Runs cooler like that.

An engine will run at 220-230 degrees with no problems, but unless you monitor your coolant temp before and after you have no idea. To just say you have no problems doesn't mean it did not have an affect on your coolant temp.
