Default Nick Williams 90mm Throttle Body Question

Just bought a Nick Williams 90mm throttle body here on LS1tech....really nice piece and in great condition with one exception: someone (not NW) drilled the throttle plate with a single 3/16" hole. I have no clue why?? First, why was it drilled? Second, I want to correct the hole. I am thinking of micro welding but am worried about warpage. Does anyone have Nick Williams e-mail or web address so I can see if a replacement throttle blade is available? I am also thinking of using epoxy to fill the hole but am hesitant. Thnaks in advance!

I'm pretty sure the hole is to regulate airflow at idle.

I just want to be clear that the hole is not from Nick Williams...it was drilled pretty crudely with a hand drill. I do think you are right though...the previous owner was trying to add extra airflow when the throttle plate is closed but I do not know why? I thought idle quality or A/F ratios could be adjusted via the computer?

They can be adjusted via the computer. Typically a good tuner can get it dialed in well without having to drill a larger hole, however I have seen on the forums some people say their tuners have done it for this reason. That typically happens with more radical cam setups though. Shouldn't be necessary.

Sorry to be using so many responses, but I'm guessing an epoxy that you can sand smooth would be the best solution if you want to plug it.

epoxy could work... i wouldn't do it myself though. I'd be too worried of that stuff coming loose then going into the engine.

I've heard of some people using a rivet gun...

Thanks guys....I'm not really sold on epoxy either....I like the rivet idea. I have tried to find Nick William's website or contact info but no luck so far....

Once again...you guys are awesome! I just spoke with Nick Williams and he said send it back and he will replace the throttle plate for free...hell of a guy!

BTW...it does come from NW with a 1/8" hole. Nick said somebody just tried to open it up with a hand drill and that is why it looks so shabby....

Stock size hole in a LS1 TB is 5/32.

It must have been drilled out for a big cam. 3/16 isn't too big. If your going to run a decent sized cam, you might want to leave it alone.

My LS6 is basically a stock block motor with a Magnuson blower and headers. I don't think the stock LS6 cam is too aggressive...my question is why do we need a hole at all? Can't the throttle position sensor crack the throttle plate open a tiny amount? Just like carbs do? I'm new to the Fuel Injection game...sorry about the ignorant questions but I'd like to understand the principle before I monkey with something...thx
