Unhappy One of my pulleys is squealing like a pig...

Today I hit the throttle hard and now I am getting this god aweful high pitched squealing. It dies down at idel, but when I am driving it gets progressively louder as I speed up; however, when I hit about 55mph it stops till I slow back down, then it starts up again.

When standing facing the engine, the squeal seems to be emanating from the pulley that is to the left side of the air box when looking down between the block and the air box. I believe it is the one the tensioner. Does this sound right; would this part make said noise and if so, what is this part called?

I will try to get a pic tomorrow.

That is the tensioner pulley. You can remove it, pop the dust cap off and re-grease it. There is a write up on exactly how to do this somewhere on this site.

What you describe sounds more like the belt, though.

Hey, if that doesnt work, just take off all pulleys and regrease them. I did this and eventually found it to be my new alternator I put on. It was an Autozone one. I took it back and got a Remy one and the sound went right away. I sprayed some soap on my belt, it went away so I figured it wasnt a bearing , I think the alternator pulley didnt line up correctly with my other pulleys. Just some thoughts if the tensioner doesnt work

my reman alternator just started squealing a couple weeks after i got it. Thought maybe it was idler pulleys at first so replaced/regreased them. Still squealed so replaced the tensioner and was still there. After that i spun the pulleys with the belts off and my new alternator had a little high pitch sound. reman pos i still have to return it.
