Default Ignition Coil Problem

Alright, so I just bought my T/A and on the drive home with it, my check engine light came on. Went and pulled the code and got a P0347 (I believe) basically a malfunctioning primary/secondary ignition coil g. Replaced the coil, light went off (did this yesterday) drove around today just fine until tonight, and the light just popped back on.. When I pulled the code last time it also said something about the Catalyst malfunctioning or something, and my car also seems to have a strong gas odor at times coming from it. It runs fine, but it also doesn't sound necessarily smooth until like 2.5k rpm. It driving me nuts! Any ideas on what it could be?

Well I found the culprit to the rich smell, coming from the fact the car has no cats, but that still doesn't really tell me why its throwing the ignition coil g code at me

P0347 Are you sure that is the right code. If you have no cats sooner or later you will be trippin a P0420....Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold. Unless the rear O2s have been tuned out.

Yeah thats the right code, but it also threw a P0420 at me probably 4 days ago, but it's not coming up anymore.

The p0420 will be back as soon as the monitors run a self test. P034x codes are camshaft pos codes. P035x codes are ignition coil codes. What are you scanning with and were are you getting your DTC definitions?

okay I just went and scanned it again, and wrote the code down. And its throwing a P0357 not 47, still a malfunctioning ignition coil primary/secondary g. Using oreilly's scanner.

Clear the codes out. If you have to do a hard clear by unhooking the Negative batt cable for at least 20 sec. Swap the #7 coil with the #1 coil. Drive the car and see if the code comes back. If it does come back as a p0357 then you have a short in the harness or a bad pcm. If it comes back as a p0351 then your coil is bad.

How would I find out if I have a short in the harness or a bad pcm?

Digging up an old thread....

Did you ever figure out the problem?

Having similar issues with a P0351 code.
