Question Should I upgrade plugs/wires?

I'm going to be getting a set of LT headers and I'm wondering if I should also replace my plugs and wires with NGK55 and 8mm taylor wires. My 00 Camaro Z28 only has 20,000 miles.

My perf mods include: Pacesetter LT, ORY, Vig 3200 converter, SLP lid, and speed inc basic tune. Future mods: TR224 cam, heads upgrade, LS6 intake.

I also have headers on order and plan to do the plugs and wires. It will make it much easier. I would if I were you. The stockers are known to be gapped all over hell.

realy good choice of the NGK55 ..... but no need to replace the wires .... the stock ones work just fine ...... and with 20,000 miles u dont have to think about changing the wires

Not sure who TZshaheen is, but I agree. No need to change your stock wires. Definitely change the plugs though.

Alright thanks guys. I was hoping for a quick responce since I'm actually going to Speed Inc in a few minutes before I drive home. I'll probably just get the NGK55's and O2 sims (forgot to get with my pacestters).

Well I went over and talked to Jon and he said I didn't need O2 sims since I had them tune it a while back for my converter and said it should already be tuned for the O2's... So I was pretty happy to save that $80 . Since I did I figured I'd still go ahead and get the taylor wires and the NGK55's.

I also purchased a 160 T-stat since my fans are on almost 24/7 with the stock T-stat because of the converter (even with transcooler).

I just installed my KOOKs LTs last weekend. I spent 200 bucks at LS1 Speed, got in on their GP for plugs and wires for 74 bucks. Got a set of TR55s, and a set of Taylor Thundervolt wires. I figured why the hell not, the price was cheap enough. The O2 sensors + extensions is what really cost money. I've never installed pacesetters, but my LTs were the biggest bitch to install. The install was spread out over 2 days, 11-3PM both days and I had to come back the third day to put in my plugs and wires. Didn't pull off the steering shaft, or grind down the infamous tab on the block. But I didn't have to to pull the filter. So while your at it, go get yourself a filter and Mobil 1.

Ah yes, the pain of LT installs. I've helped on a couple of them, and I didn't have fun. My mids were VERY easy to install though. I think a monkey could have done it.

I like the stock wires, but when they get older I'll put some 10.4mm on. I always use NGK TR55 plugs. I've tried gaps of .050 to .060 and I see no real difference...

Yea I can't wait to have everything on the car. This is what I'm going to be doing over the next week (This isn't my daily car anymore so I can take my time).

-SLP LM is getting replaced with a fully polish magnaflow system (Polished everything myself).
-Coated Pacesetter LT's with ORY.
-Taylor 8mm wires
-NGK55 plugs
-160 T-Stat

I disagree with the "stock wires are good" idea. With 20K miles on my stock wires, I ordered a set of MSD 8.5mm wires. When I compared them with an ohm meter, the stock ones were 5-6 times as restrictive as the MSDs.

Yes, this is true. Stock wires are usually in the 300 range where the MSDs are in the 25-30 range. But for a wire that short, and with as much voltage output of an LS1 coil, it really doesn't matter much....

Yeah, if the LS1 had a distributor and a single coil, the stock wires would leave some to be desired, but with the short wire and a coil for each plug, they'll get the job done.

BTW, I did a cam install for a buddy a few weeks ago, and pulled a stock wire apart (oops). I went to the dealer and bought a new one, $22!!! For one wire! Oh well.....funny thing is, I had my wife go pick it up (the first time) and the parts guy misundestood me and gave her a $7 spark plug....man these guys are ripping us off.
