The wrap soaks up oil... makes a nice wick to start a fire with....

Wrapping headers will reduce your underhood temperature and raise the temperature inside the headers promoting quicker flow and scavenging of the exhaust through them. It’ll also keep the O2 sensors hotter. As the intake air comes from some sort of outside of engine compartment cold air induction, it won’t be affected by the lower underhood temperatures. However, keeping the air around the engine block cooler will help everything a bit and help the radiator do it’s job.

No huge power gains from wrapping headers but there is some gain. I’d say it’s worth it and I’m planning on doing it when I get headers for my car.

Back in the ‘80's, I knew a guy who had a engine fire from an oil leak that soaked into his header wrap. Luckily, he was carrying a fire extinguisher. We all carry one with us today, right?

No way in hell I would wrap my stainless steel headers in what looks like a ****** turban, lol.

Nice job on the wrapping though.

What's the advantage of wrapping over Jet-Hot ceramic coatings?

LOL that's why my tuner almost crapped his pants at the O2 sensor waves, they were perfect

There was no problems with fitting whatsoever, it is late now but I will take daylight pictures tomorrow and post em. At first startup the shop looked like it was on fire heehe

I don't see the point. Never seen any problems not wrapping them and just hiding some awesome looking headers.

"What's the advantage of wrapping over Jet-Hot ceramic coatings?"

All the advantages listed above apply. No coating will have any advantage over un-coated headers heat-wise, inside the header tubes or outside of them.

PIZDETS, how's your under-hood temps?

Well, unfortunately I do not have a point of reference on before and after the wrap on the underhood temperatures. However I am sure they are down quite a bit, Tuesday on the dyno I'll see if they have some way to measure so at least my after number could be official.

My reasons for wrapping them N/A were that I live in a hot *** area of the country, 100 degrees all summer long, so underhood temps were a concern. Next I wanted better scavenging because every little bit counts and this is easy to do. It also increases the longevity of the parts that no longer have to put up with the heat of the exhaust. There are some others like everyone has either coated or stainless and I felt like being a bit different. I am sure there is no HUGE verifiable advantage for wrapping headers but at least my mileage and my o2's like the idea since my tuner has never ever seen o2's oscillate that well together before.

PIZDETS, did you use the 1" or 2" wide wrap? and how long of rolls did you use? 25 or 50'?? Thanks!

I used the DEI kit from Summitt, it is the 2" wide wrap. The kit comes with 2 50' rolls and I used a full roll per side.

Hey PIZDETS, i ordered the same kit and getting ready to do my headers soon as well, one thing though, how did you wire them? i mean is it just wired once by the collector and the flange or is that a wire running around all down each tube with the wrap? you did such a good job i can't tell lol.

MOISTURE RETENTION occurs when they are wrapped. And there is no reason to wrap them . Turbo motors can gain from wrapping. Its a waste of time in my book. I also hate working on them. Real ITCHIE.
